So I call Cingular customer service. I punch in my phone number, I
wade through a dozen levels of voice mail jail, and finally the system
transfers my call to a live CSR... Only to give me a recording telling
    me their office is closed!

Hey, DUMBASSES - why couldn't you tell me your office was closed
BEFORE making me wade through all your ****?

Jesus H. Tapdancin' Christ, the programmers at Cingular are EFFIN'
    IDIOTS.

The VRU ("voice response unit", part that asks you questions, gives you
a menu and uses your response to direct your call) at Cingular is the
single worst and most frustrating piece of S*** I have ever encountered
    - even when there are reps available

Literally, it is the kind of thing you would expect from some dinky
100-person company, not an industry giant.

Press "0" twice to skip the voice tree and go right to the call queue. That
works on many voice tree systems.

Been there, done that. I love when I'm stuck on hold for 20 minutes and
have to listen 10000 times to a recorded message telling me how my call is
important to them (not necessarily at Cingular, but lots of places do that).

Many times, I find that simply not pressing any button gets me to a human.
I guess most systems still program-in a fallback for anyone still using a
    rotary dial?

Even better when you are hold for 45 minutes and then HUNG UP ON. Seems to
happen at least 50% of the time that I'm on hold in voicemail hell, but this
has nothing to do with cingular in particular. Oh yeah, like I really buy
that bull**** that my call is important to you when you make me wait forever
to NOT answer my phonecall at all. -Dave

Every last one of you should have to work at a call center for one day -
just one day - you would not be so critical of the system the person on the
other end of the phone has to deal with and calls drop - you don't get hung
    up on on purpose.

If calls "drop", that would seem to indicate that the telephone equipment at
the call center is defective. It's odd how you always hear a mechanical
"CLICK" right before the line goes dead while you are on hold in voicemail
hell. That is, it's odd if the real problem is a defective machine. -Dave

The one I like better is when you've been on hold for an eternity, have the
phone connect, hear bits of some non-work-related conversation and then get
    disconnected.

That is a pretty arrogant comment and makes a lot of assumptions about the
people that work in call centers not only for Cingular but call centers all
    over the U.S.

Maybe you should work in a call center if for no other reason than to have
    that attitude checked a little.

I worked in a call center for a while (when I was in high school and
and had no marketable skills). Isaiah is 100% correct.

You know there has got to be something said about the comment that you
worked at a call center while in high school. And whatever company would
hire a high school student to work in a call center talking to customers has
    got to real issues.

But I stand by my comments about most people that work in call centers.
They are, for the most part, honest hard working people doing a job that
MOST people would not have the stamina or the patience to do.

And how you could possibly equate something that you did in high school to
earn your beer and gas money to people who work in call centers and actually
try and make a living feeding families and keeping off the government hand
    out programs.

Please note that I am refraining from turning this into a flame war, but -
as it was stated earlier in this thread, now that you are an adult, I would
invite you to go work in a call center now - and try and do a good job - and
then continue to have this attitude.
