    Hi,

I have a Motorola V551 phone and I want to synchronize it with my
Outlook. However I haven't been able to do it.

I am looking for the most (cost, time) effective way of accomplishing
    this.

    - Is there any extra software I need to purchase and install? If yes,
is there an open source version?

    - Can I just use Bluetooth (my computer supports it) or do I have to
    use a data cable?

    - Would it be easier to synchronize with Yahoo?

    - Is it possible to somehow to back up my text messages? Despite the
large amount of memory I can only store a limited number of text
    messages ((

    Thank you

Motorola Mobile Phonetools will do the job, it supports Bluetooth and data
cables. You can find Ver. 3.0 on ebay for about $10.

You can use bluetooth. Bluetooth, with no additional software package, on
WinXP-SP2, will allow you to copy one contact at a time, but not
    synchronize.

Motorola Mobile Phone Tools, unless it is a "Lite" version bundled with
some phones, will do a LiveUpdate to 3.25b via the internet. You will need
3.25b before connecting your V551. 3.25b is only available via LiveUpdate.

If you buy it from eBay, you should get the USB cable, since it is almost
no cost in that package. The Bluetooth adapter for your PC is $20-40.

is my story with a DLink-DBT-120.

Phonetools 3.11 worked fine with my V551 for access and sync, although it
didn't have the right desktop picture for my phone.
BTW, the current version is 3.28

I use a Bluetooth USB dongle that I got on eBay for about $10. Works fine.

I paid about $13, including shipping, for Ver. 3.0 Phonetools which included
    a USB data cable.

    Re: Synchronize V551 with Outlook?

Thank you. I checked out ebay for phone tools.

I am just wondering how come this software package, which is seems to
be priced 29.99), is being sold at such a low price? Are they really
    selling the original CDs?

Yes. I've been transferring photo/video files back and forth over
bluetooth, one by one, but I couldn't do the same for text
    messages/contacts/calendar items.

Also, is it possible to change the "hard" limit on the number of text
    messages it can store?

It seems ridiculous that I have to delete text messages, while there is
plenty of free memory to store photos!

Some may be legitimate OEM (rather than retail) versions.
    Others may be pirated.

A think a better bet for software like this is http://shopoem.com/

I had some difficulty getting connected initially on WinXP-SP2. Maybe it
was only the "skin" that was bad for the V551, ultimately. I tried to
retrace my steps, but updating before trying to connect is simple enough.
Interesting about the 3.28. I'm grabbing that now.
Scouting around BVRP.COM, I don't see any notice of the latest rev.
BVRP is an odd sort of company.

Right. The ebay (or shopoem.com) kit with USB cable, even if you don't use
it, is cheap. If you ever want to do a seem edit, you need the cable.
