I've done it. No regrets, except that I wish I had done it sooner.

Re: Anyone Ditch Their landline?
I have been without my corded phone for about three years now. It's
great.
Pros:
Savings are good
I can get ahold of anyone whenever I want
I can be contacted anytime (also a con listed below)
Con:
You can't call 911 and get your local PD usually (just keep it
programmed in your phone)
I can be contacted anytime by anyone. When people find out that you
only have a cell phone, they will sometimes coment about my screening
their phone call. I always tell them that if I wanted to talk to them
I would have answered the phone and that shuts them up quickly.
I have probably saved over $2500 over the last three years. Another
monor problem I have run into is when ordering items online, some web
pages think they need my phone number. I never put my phone number in
(so I have never received telemarketing calls, which are forbidden in
the united States) the web page, I always look up their phone number
and put it in (so when they do telemarketing, they are essentially
calling themselves).
I don't regret going to just my cell phone and would do it again
without hesitation.

Re: Anyone Ditch Their landline?
All depends on the service quality at your house and keep in mind any "junk"
phone calls you get on your LL will probably start showing up on your cell
phone.

How so? I don't get *any* "junk" calls on my cell phone.

Re: Anyone Ditch Their landline?
I've not cut my cord and probably never will, cause I hate Cellphones. But
my best friend, hasn't had a land line phone in over 5 years. He and his
wife both have Cellphones and when they got their house, never had a
Landline installed, they recently moved to another house in MO and still
haven't gotten a phone. So maybe I should have him answer this question

keep my DSL

Same here. No regrets. If cable modem service is available in your area,
and your cell phone has a good signal everywhere in your house, it is stupid
NOT to cut the cord. We've saved gobs of money over the last few years
because we don't pay monthly charges for a landline phone we were hardly
using (since we got cell phones) and we don't pay long distance charges
anymore (LD is included with our cell service). It depends on how you use
your phones of course, but our total phone expenses were just about cut in
half by cutting the cord. -Dave

I don't have DSL, but I spend $85 a month, though I'm subscrived to Verizon
"all you can eat" LD service. Else it would be around $25

Re: anyone ditch their landline?
I would like to except for the following 2 reasons
1. I have to call overseas monthly
2. I have Bellsouth DSL.

Re: Anyone Ditch Their landline?
Just curious. Why would someone who "hates cellphones" hang out in a
cellphone newsgroup?

Hi Elmo
Believe me I have looked at it. However I quit Comcast Cable due to
service problems and them forgetting who was the customer. While not
as fast I will admit when I do d/l I see about 360 kbs which is not bad
and am paying 42.95 per month. I do know when my modem goes out and
BellSouth tells me I have to buy a new one I will be looking for a new
provider.
My OS calls are for my spouse and a happy spouse is a happy husband.
Most of the providers as I understand it only provide LD in the states
not overseas. But LD with cell is a little more expensive for OS calls.
Right now for LL I pay around $25 and 10 cents for US LD and 14 for OS
LD. Not all that expensive. Plus having to buy a phone from the
cellular companies and after reading the complaints here even after some
of the good stuff makes me leary of buying into cell only. I have had
the same LL for 28 years and only had one problem and a concientious
employee took care of it for me without the company (who refused)
permission.
Thanks though for your viewpoint

Would you care to tell me about your calling card and do you use it with
a land line or a cell phone? If cell phone do you still have a per
minute deduction for your calls OS? I understand it is a state side
call but I guess I mean you still get charged for minutes plus what you
pay for the calling card right? Plus what are the charges if you don't
mind me asking.
BTW thanks for the suggestion will wait on an your answer if you have time.

Re: Anyone Ditch Their landline?
Cause my girlfriend loves her, so I have to have one. And I'm a techno geek,
so I like the Technology side of it. I just hate talking on them or talking
to them someone on them. "Can you hear me now...how about now ?" So I
prefer, Land lines over Cellphones
