I suppose the important part is that Cingular will provide the code for
free, as opposed to paying someone to unlock it, but it may take a couple
of weeks. It also seems to cause International Roaming to be added to your
account features for that phone, when you make the request.

Probably because that's the presumed valid reason for the unlock code.
