Motorola V550 - data settings for U.S. use?

Hi, new to this group. Hoping somebody can help. sorry to ask such a
basic question. Tried searching the archives but got nothing I could
use.

A while back, I got an unlocked V550, Vodafone branded, for use with
Cingular in Pennsylvania. It works fine as a cell phone, but I don't
know how to configure it to access web services in the U.S.
When I press the "live" button, it tries to connect to the Vodafone
Live service in the U.K., I think, and I get no connection and a hefty
charge on my phone bill! So if nothing else, I want to disable this so
my phone doesn't call Europe when I accidentally hit that button!

Better, I'd like to know how to set up my phone to connect to the web
in the U.S.

"no connection" and "hefty charge" shouldn't be in the same sentence.


Try the settings at
cingular.com - customer service - phones & devices - Device Setup
Access/configure browser/internet settings

You will need to set up the BROWSER and MMS settings in order to
connect to Cingular MEdia net. The following settings are for Cingular
(ORANGE) media net settings on your motorola.

Go to MENU
Select SETTINGS
Select WEB SESSIONS (might be broswer setup on your phone)
Create a new entry

<please note that the settings are case sensitive>

enter the following info:

Name: Cingular
Homepage: http://device.home
Service Type 1: WAP
Gateway IP: 066.209.011.061
Port1: 9201
Timeout: 10 Minutes
CSD: +14152441012 (press and hold the 0 key to get the + sign)
User Name: WAP@CINGULAR.COM (all upper case)
PASSWORD: CINGULAR1 (all upper case)
Speed: 9600
Line Type: ISDN
GPRS APN: wap.cingular (all lower case)
USER NAME: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (all upper case)
Password: CINGULAR1 (all upper case)


after you've created that entry then you will need to create another
new entry

My settings are correct as above and I can use MMS and the web, if I
know the URL, but none of the Cingular MEdia links are working. I can
see them, but I can't select any of them. I have an unlocked V3 and,
of course, Cingular and the authorized distributor reps don't know what
to do about it. Any ideas?
