I finally gave in and migrated to Cingular, given that they finally did away
with the $18 per line fee and I have four lines. The experience was
interesting to say the least. I ordered four Nokia 6102's (nice little
phone). When the phones got here, there were only three. I called
immediately to find out where the fourth phone was. Get this--someone made
a typo in the order, changing a 1 to a 9 in one of the phone numbers--so
they only sent three phones because there was no such number on my account.
Now, would it take a rocket scientist to refer to my account where ALL FOUR
NUMBERS are listed together (correctly) and figure out the typo, correct it
    and send all four phones?

Anyway, went ahead to activate the three phones I did get. The paper that
came with the phones told me to have phone, phone number, zip code and last
four digits of SS#. This I had. The bozo activating the phones demanded
the sim #s, and IMEI #s which were on the box and in the boxes which, of
course were in the other room. I ran and gathered up the boxes and then
tried to keep identical phones, boxes and cards all in order. The sim card
holder for one of the phones was not in the box (I found it later on the
floor and pushed under the table) so I couldn't activate that phone at the
time. I had to call back yet again when I found the card. Of course he
couldn't tell me it was the same number as the sim card so I could just pull
the back of the phone and remove the battery and read it directly off the
    card.

Today the fourth phone arrived. I didn't have to wait for a live person. A
recording had me punch in the phone number, then my zip code and the last
four digits of my SS# and bingo--the phone was activated! What was with
    all that other crap?

    >From what phone did you make the calls the first and second time? Maybe

the first time you called from a home phone or a blocked caller ID, so
they needed additional verification. Maybe the second time, you called
from a Cingular cell phone, and they could verify the caller ID. I
don't know, just a random guess.

Nope, every call was made from home phone with no caller ID blocked.
