I have tryed to install this software, and have done all the updates (the
version I got was old 2.0), so now I am up to version 4.0. But my phone
cannot be detected. Anyone have a solution.?

I installed the software before connecting the phone, uninstalled 3-4 times.
Need someone to help me with step by step instructions - what is
    wrong???????

I'm having the same problem (using phone tools with the SYN0717A wireless
USB adapter to connect with my V3). I've tried some things suggested by
others, but still nothing has worked. I've read threads for hours and tried
many things. I've installed, uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, etc., many
many times now. Nothing has worked. It shouldn't be this difficult. The
Cingular store gave me a new device just in case there was a physical
problem with the adapter and that didn't help. I bought two V3's and neither
one could connect, so it's probably not a bad phone. I tried installing on a
twin computer on my network (same model HP and XP OS), and that didn't help.
I've gone into the system pretty deep, uninstalling anything related to
Bluetooth devices and then reinstalled to the dotted i of the instructions
and still, my phone cannot be detected. I called for technical support but
they have banker's hours and I am on the job, so I could only get recorded
messages which didn't relate to my problem.
Maybe someone can help here, maybe not. If not, I'm just returning it all to
Cingular, but not without a fair amount of bitterness.

I know this may sound like a stupid comment - but let me make it anyway.
There are literally hundreds of cables that are out there that all look
alike but the interior wiring is different. Make certain that the one that
you are using is specifically designed for the model of phone you have.

I had the same problem version 4.0 would not work with my Dell laptop.
I had to use version 3.0. Everything now works.

Thanks Cliff, but this is a bluetooth (wireless) device. I'm thinking of
    going to cable though.

fine with my Razr and it beats paying $15-$30 for one

Your USB dongle assigns a comm port to the "modem". The phone is treated
as a modem, and MP sends AT commands to it, like a modem. MPT cannot
accept a high numbered comm port. If you have attempted installs at
different times, maybe with the USB dongle plugged in to different ports on
the laptop, it gets different comm ports assigned each time.

Does "my bluetooth places" pair with the phone?
Can you transfer pictures to and from the phone using the WinXP-standard
    OBEX file transfer?
In Windows Control Panel, phones and modems, do you see the bluetooth
modem? What port is it on? Needs to be less than 10. Mine is 7.
double-click on it. Diagnostics, query modem should return some obvious AT
    commands and results.

If all of that works, then you are ready to try the BVRP forums for further
    help.

Here's one that might be good:
In mPT the Bluetooth wizard isn't installing my phone.
    http://bvrpforums.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=4976
Step 9 is the part you might not have tried yet.

Buy the cable for $20. Keep or copy the software, it'll work and you
probably deserve more than a free CD for all the heartache and time you've
put into attempts to make the bluetooth work. I just did, it now works
    great.

    Try this:
    Open Windows Control Panel.
Open the Phones and Modems Icon
    Open the Modems tab.
If "Motorola USB Modem" appears, highlight it and remove it
    so it can be re-discovered.
Now plug in your V3 with the cable to the USB port.
Start MPT and follow the drop down screens. If it doesn't
discover the phone you'll probably see instructions to
"unplug the cable from the computer end", wait about 5 seconds
and plug it back into the USB port. It will again search but
should find it OK this time. That will be apparent by an image
of the V3 appearing and you'll see it search for the network.
I hope that will work for you. It did for me.

Re: (FROM SBC) Razr v3 and Motorola Phone Tools

I use the cable that came with my HP digital camera, it connects
    in Mobile Phone tools, and
also charges my phone while it's hooked up!
