I'm in the market of switching my cell phone provider to Cingular,
however I notice that all of their plans require a two-year contract
agreement, which is turning my interest off to Cingular. I don't want to
be tied down to any kind of contract. I'd actually consider a one-year
contract but I am not about to consider a two-year contract. What are my
options as far as signing up as a new customer without contracts?

Re: potential customer question
Eddie,
I just read one of the GSM forums last night, and I think the guy that
posted it must work for Cingular, stated that even there is NO signature
and if you want out you have to stay for a minium of 1 year, thing is
with cingular if you leave and come back before the time frame stated
thats when there going to get ya so to speak. Search through and look
for a poster by the name of TROLL, go figure.

Re: potential customer question
Go to a Cingular store, you can pay full price for the phone and have NO
contract or pay a bit more and get a one year contract. I think the web
site may only have the two year contracts listed but there ARE other
options.

Re: potential customer question
Hey thanks for this information, I am going to the store today to find
a case for my phone and am going to run this by the local sales rep, I
will lay you 10 to 1 they say it cant be done. These stores in my
area change the rules every 5 minutes, and Veriozon is even worse.

You can get a one-year agreement by calling or going into a store. That
reduces the phone subsidy, so you'll pay more for a phone. You also may be
able to get month-to-month SIM-only service for an unlocked or Cingular-locked
phone bought elsewhere, but check before buying a phone.

Re: potential customer question
They have 1 year contracts -- they dont advertise them
you can get them at the store or over the phone (dont know if you can
do it on line)
the deal on the new phone is that it is $50 more--- and still get the rebate
That was the deal i got last year -
actually 1 year has some benefits-- even though the phone is more
1, your not stuck for 2 years if it doesnt work out
2, yo can update your phone after 11 months instead of having to wait
22-23 months
(depends on how geeky you are for the latest toy/technology)

There is definitely a one-year term available. The only way to get a
no-term new signup is a pay-as-you-go plan, I believe.

Re: potential customer question
I called customer service today at lunch time and explained that I was
NOT happy with the two phones and am going to return them, but what
would the contract be, she put me on hold and the supervisor came back
on and said there IS NOT contract you go from month to month, at what
your previous contract was, "40.00" a month. If you did not have a
previous contract than it would be a one year agreement / contract and
not a 2 Year .
I called the local store and they said theres no such thing and that
customer care would answer all my questions. I told them what
customer care said and that I wanted a second opinion, once again
they said call customer care and than hung up .
The phones go BACK tonight or tommorow at the very latest.

Re: potential customer question
They offer one year just ask. All the published phone prices are for
two year deals though, you will pay more for one year.
