Anyone ever use Cingular's Roadside Assistance?
I'm thinking about adding this service on my fiance's line.
The items that particularly interest me are:
-battery service
-fuel delivery
-flat tire assistance
-lockout assistance
Have any of you had any experiences with any of these items with Cingular's
Roadside Assistance?
Do any of you recommend a different company?
Thanks,
Ja

Re: Roadside Assistance
I have it...I have never used it yet but I do have it. The kewl thing is
that it states that as long as you are a subscriber and have your phone with
you, the services for it are also available to you if you are in a car of
someone else who has a problem. (I call that insurance) <s>

Re: Roadside Assistance
I have it, and had to use it once. They kept telling me they couldn't
find anyone willing to come help me and that they would call me back.
Finally after about 3 hours of not being able to find any help, I got my
own tow truck and got Cingular to pay me back for it.
I don't have the service anymore, needless to say.

Re: Roadside Assistance
If I may ask Lisa, where were you and what type service did you need? Was
there a particular reason they couldn't get someone to come out? I don't
want this service if it's not dependable. Can you give us some more
details?
Thank you,

I used it once - had a dead battery and they sent a service truck out to
give me a jump start - took about 20 minutes - I was in Euless, Texas -
also they called me later to ask if I was satisified with the service - -
and when I first called gave me a confirmation number and told me to call
back if no one had arrived in 40 minutes - this was about 2 years ago so
don't know if this is standard service of if I had good luck! If they hadn't
gotten my car started they would have towed my car but can't remember how
many miles it was before I would have had to pay additional charges/

Re: Roadside Assistance
I was in Concord NC, near Charlotte. At a major intersection right near
Interstate 485/85. I think it was August a year ago. I have no idea
why they couldn't get anyone to come, because when gave up and called a
tow truck myself, they came within 15 minutes. The Cingular rep never
told me why they were having a problem getting someone to help me.
The rep sounded like they were somewhere in Canada (based on his
accent), FWIW.

I recommend GM Motor Club <http://www.gmmotorclub.com/standardsite>.
It costs $49.95 per year ($4.16 per month). That is cheaper than AAA
in Oklahoma. It comes with much the same benefits as AAA. Their
service providers are convenient for me to use. The longest I have had
to wait was an hour for a lockout on the other side of the County.
I have not experienced any loss of service with this group. For
example, my daughter's car developed an intermittent problem. We towed
it to repair. They found nothing. We drove it away. It broke down
(same day). They towed it back. NO additional charge and they did not
cancel our membership.
With the GM club (GM Car NOT required), you get map routings, travel
discounts, ex. meals, motels, etc.
With Cingular's service, service is limited to $50 per service event at
a cost of $2.99 per month ($35.88). It only provides the services you
mentioned.
Finally, that's $35.88 per phone (about the same cost as Triple AAA).
My wife and I both have coverage with the GM plan for the $49.95 cost.
Let me know how more I can help.

Nope.

I get all that and more from AAA. And it follows me, not my car and
not my phone.

AAA. Basic rate is $48 per year, billed annually. More details here:

Oh look... AAA members get a discount on Cingular national plans of $40
or more: http://ww2.aaa.com/aaa/240/sne/membe...lar/index.html
(Note, the above URLS are for AAA Southern New England)

Jay,
We used the option to have a vehicle towed to a local shop of our
choice. We had to wait over an hour but I am not sure what the
wait time would have been if we had called a tow directly that
evening. It was a busy Friday night in a medium size city.

Must be an east thing. I see no reference to Cingular or discount on
any mobile phone service on the CSAA (California State Auto Association,
i.e. AAA in Calif) at all.
