My daughter has been trying to download a ringtone since Friday. No luck
yet, on either of two (new) phones.
The first phone is configured properly and the account is enabled to
receive ringtones from MEdiaNet. She goes to the MEdiaMall at
cingular.com (via her pc) to purchase the ringtone online, enters her
phone model and phone number, and clicks submit. A message is returned
(still on her pc) saying:
A text message was sent to the phone number you entered. Complete the
download by following these steps. Click on the text message link. You
will be taken to the purchase confirmation page. Click on title's name
to download the item.
Her phone rings, and there is a text message there from
http://wap.cingularextras.com/fule/e...andlerServlet?.
...and the name of the ringtone she's purchased.
She presses Connect, but always gets Error: Network unavaliable.
We called Cingular, and got past the 1st level of help, and got to
technical help. They verified settings and account were ok, but pushed a
new profile anyway. They also had us connect to MEdiaNet, and we got to
the home page just fine.
On the other phone, when trying to download a ringtone, we have the same
problem, with one exception. When the connection fails, a message says
"NoGPRS, try CSD?". We say yes, but still get Network unavailable.
They are at a loss as to why we can't download ringtones, and so are we.
So, that's where it stands. Is anyone is my area (SFBay Area) having
connection problems with MEdiaNet?
Thanks

No, I'm not 'that' guy, whoever he is. I just signed up for MEdiaNet
three days ago, and I just discovered this newsgroup a couple of days
ago.

If I was, I certainly wouldn't handle it that way, but something tells me
you would.

Re: MEdiaNet Down in SFBay Area?
So what did Cingular say when you called them for assistance / support?
Did you look in the Cingular Forums to see if anyone else has had
problems like what your having ?
And you don't know me and cant ASSUME what I would do.
Best of luck.
and as an FYI there is a guy in your area that does have the same
problems as your having. Search the newgroup, or better yet Google it.

Re: MEdiaNet Down in SFBay Area?
Ooops, must have been to tired from playing FEAR, sorry bout that dude,
Hows about going to the local Cingulard store and having them pull
another phone and swapping if under the 30 days, if not than call and
have the phone swapped out for another one.
Did you try also looking at John Navass's wiki website information
<http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cingular_Wireless_FAQ>
This mite help or may not.
One things for sure you didn't make it to higher level of support, 1st
tier covers nothing more than the owners manual and some settings, thats
really about all.
What did you do after tech "support said that everything is setup fine"
just go with it. You got to be a prick with these people, and either
have them fix it over the phone or ship you a new phone overnight.
Its worked for me for almost 5 years. You do get reps and techs that
know there ****, but not all the time

MEdia Net has been working fine here in Northern California. Sounds like your
account isn't provisioned properly for MEdia Net. Ask to have the feature
removed and then re-added. If that doesn't help, take your phone(s) to a
Cingular company (not independent) store and have the in-store rep get them
working.

It took about two hours and three different technical reps to get both
phones working.
The first phone always had a GPRS signal, but only worked after pushing
the profile three times, and clearing cache, and rebooting inbetween.
One rep had me do a warm reboot (phone on, remove battery). By the time
we were done, I couldn't tell you what the problem or fix was. I doubt
Cingular could, either.
Second phone had no GPRS when trying to find MEdiaNet. After three
pushes and no luck, rep had me change the SMS from what we had set it to
fix test messaging two nights prior, +13123149810 to +12099042010. That
finally connected me to MEdiaNet, and text messaging still worked.
The experience of getting text messaging to work nights ago
<[email protected]>
combined with this experience of getting MEdiaNet to work, was very time
consuming (four hours total) and frustrating.
It's also unnerving not knowing what the problems were, and if all my
settings were correct 'out of the box', why didn't the profile received
during activation, or even subsequent, pushes work.
I wish I knew what is contained in a pushed profile, and if pushing
profiles resets any manual settings. My guess is no, and that my manual
settings are like the settings in my computers NIC, my browser, and my
router, and the pushed profile (provisioning) is comparable to the file
sent to my cable modem by my ISP.
But, the next time I have a problem, I'm going to the Cingular company
store.
