    Hi,

I've a Motorola V551 in an area with new EGPRS coverage.. Since the
    deployment
my internet connectivity has actually gotten slower with EDGE in an
    area I work
often.I have read that tethering by cable often provides faster
    throughput than just
the bluetooth connection. So where's a cheap place for the cable and
    what software
is require to talk to CIngular via a V551.

    TIA.

Bluetooth is just as fast as cable. I speak from experience with both on that
    phone.

Bluetooth adapter is $50 of a D-Link, $80 for ioGear. Data cable from
www.gomatic.com less then $20. I guess John Navas missed that part of
    what is the cheapest way.

Really? Bluetooth is built into many laptops (i.e., free), and USB dongles
can be had for well under $20 at Newegg.com. Apology accepted.

It sounds like he already has the bluetooth, and was looking for a cheap
cable. I paid $29.95 for my DLink DBT-120 bluetooth adapter, and others
    are cheaper.

Bluetooth also has the advantage that you could use your bluetooth headset
    for internet telephony, like Skype.

I can't imagine that the cable or the bluetooth would be different in
speed, they are both so much higher than the speed of EDGE.

There is the maximum speed under modem configuration. If that isn't set to
at least 115200, maybe 230400 or higher, it will limit the true speed.
