    Hello All,

I was in Best Buy today, and was looking at a Razr. I currently have
Cingular, a V220. One of the many things that I dislike about this
phone, is the battery indicator only has 3 bars for a full battery
charge. I know this is anal retentive, but I had a older cell phone, a
couple of years ago, and it seemed easier to tell what the state of
    charge with 4 bars...

    Anyhoo,

I was looking at a Razr display that Verizon had at the same booth that
the Cingular display was at. The Verizon Razr had 4 bars for a fully
charged battery. The Cingular version had only 3. Both of these
phones were "functioning" versions of the phones (not dummy display
    models).

Anyone who has played around with the "software" options on a Razr, I
guess this question is directed toward you. Can I buy a Razr, either
from Cingular, or off of e-bay, and change the battery from 3 bars to 4
bar display? What is the best software to purchase to do this?

    Thanks,

    Scott

I think you're stuck with 3 battery bars (low, normal, full) on the display
screen, although I believe there's a 6 bar Battery Meter available through the
menu or shortcut (like my V551).

Re: Question about Razr V3 Battery indicator...

If you want a closer estimate, it only takes a couple of button presses
to go into the 6-bar indicator within the Phone Info menu...

However, the 6 bars decrement in pairs making it no better than 3 bars.

The hardware inside the V3C sold by Verizon, and the V3 compatible with
GSM carriers like Cingular, are quite different. In addition, everything
you see on the Verizon displays is generated by custom software written
to Verizon's specifications, to assure a uniform user interface across
different phones they sell. This is implemented as BREW code that runs on
top of the phone's native software. I'd give the chances of obtaining and
adapting this to work on different hardware at close to zero.

I agree, the 6 bar battery meter in the menu is the same as the 3 bar
    version.

I checked, and you're right -- shame on Motorola! Thanks for the heads up.

    Interesting, I hadn't noticed that.

However, one time I looked at it, and I thought it said 60% when it was
somewhere near 2/3. Right now it says 6, so I don't know if I'm imagining
things, or what. I'll have to start looking more often and see if it ever
says anything other than 2, 4, and 6.

True, but as pointed out earlier in the thread by "BruceR"
    <[email protected]>:

However, the 6 bars decrement in pairs making it no better than 3 bars.

.... and as someone pointed out, it uses 2 at a time, so there are still only
3 distinct levels, same as the outside 3 bars.
