I've been able to use CSD on my GAIT plan since I got the plan and the
Nokia 6340i--don't use it very much but it's nice to have for checking
email on the road via IR with a pda (dialing my normal ISP). Since the
last time I used it, probably a month ago, and now it seems to be
*gone*. Now getting a "no carrier detected" message on the pda. Has
anybody else lost it or is it just me (gotta collect some ammunition
before trying to get to a CSR that even knows what it is much less
knowing that it was included in the old plan)?

You have to call them up and ask for CSD or Circuit Switched Data. It
costs $3.99 a month. It shows up on the bill as "Wireless Internet"

Last time I checked, the feature could no longer be added to an account here
in metro Atlanta, so it may not be available in other cities.

GSM. I had them re-add CSD yesterday (at $4 since they said it was never
officially included in the plan) but it still doesn't work this morning.
A friend with the same phone and Cingular GAIT plan still has it so it
    is something in the account.

I've just noticed that it's not working for me here in Northern California.
I'm not yet sure if it's a local problem, something to do with my account, or
a general phaseout (that I've been expecting).

It is working fine for me, here in Redwood City at 11:47AM both to ISPDA
and off net to my ISP.

No. CSD only. (Dial up my ISP at 9600bps)

That may be the difference. I just have the old MEdia Works Unlimited, which
included CSD, but that might have changed.

Ok, after finally getting to talk to a real tech instead of a CSR they
got it reprovisioned and it's working again. He said they were running
some "scripts" against accounts about the time I lost it--whatever that
    means.

    "running some "scripts" against accounts"

That's interesting. Several users out of the Dallas market have recently
complained their MediaNET was discontinued for excessive usage tethered
usage and were talked into a data connect plan.

I wonder when they will start running scripts against users in the San
    Francisco Bay Area?

Probably already doing that, whatever it is. Based on the report it's
probably something to do with account administration, likely something to do
with backoffice and/or network integration, rather than your black helicopter
    theory.

You're clutching at very thin straws.

So your "probably something" is more valid what I am seeing first
    hand...OK, whatever.
