Transferred my addresses from my old Nokia to my new x497 via a SIM
card. When before I had a name with nicely tagged numbers (mobile,
home, business,...) I now have Name, Name1, Name2 etc as separate
    entries.

Is there any simple way to clean up this mess? I was hoping that I
could rename Name1 to Name, and that the number from Name1 would be
added to Name, but instead I end up with 2 entries with the same name.

It's going to require a lot of effort to clean up my address book
    manually......

Are you using the phone memory for the Samsung?

I don't know that phone, but I had an older one, and it would
duplicate entries if one was on the sim, and one in the phone. Other
phones do the same. My RAZR will do what you were hoping, but only in
the phone - the SIM doesn't have that capability with any phone.

Re: Addresses messed up on Samsung x497

I copied the entries from SIM -> phone and then deleted the SIM
entries, but it seems the copy operation has no clue that Name and
Name1 are the same person, and clearly not that *1 is the mobile entry,
*2 is the work entry etc.

Unfortunately, the editing capabilities of the phone are very limited
too - there doesnt seem to be any way to merge the entries.

Gonna have to investigate use of a data cable and PIM...

On my Motorola, if I name two entries the same, it will merge them
automatically. But there's no way to guess that Name and Name1 are the
same. Try deleting the 1 off name, and maybe change the type to work.

Data cables help, but they aren't cheap, unless you're lucky enough to have
something like a RAZR with a standard mini USB cable (like cameras, card
    readers, etc use).
