I've been using Xpress Mail with limited success for the past few
months, but haven't been very hapy with it. More often than not, I get
a message that, after getting server changes, it can't connect to
desktop. When I get back to my office, I see that the desktop client
has disconnected for no apparent reason.
Anybody else using this service and having similar problems?

Same problem I had. I like Versamail (Treo 650) much better.

I use Versamail too, for home email. It often causes my phone to reset.
I use Xpress Mail for office mail because I can also access files on my
desktop computer (when the system is working).

That feature was kind of neat but I had to give up on Xpressmail.
