That seems a bit crazy - I'm pretty sure it isn't legal for someone to sell
their contract, so they are taking a pretty big chance in doing it.

And what if they get out of their contract, and the phone gets disabled?

Re: Found 6-month Cingular contract w/ free phone

No dude..everything goes through cingular, so its perfectly legal. I
just got into a cingular contract using this site like a month ago. I
was so thrilled that i could do this, that I was looking to get one for
my sister and had to share it. This is what happened:

    1. contacted the contract owner using resellular for free
    2. He emailed me back with some more info on the contract
    3. I agreed to take it over
    4. He called cingular to tell them he is transfering his contract to
another person -- he had to give them my name
    5. Cingular put my name on the "transfer list" -- and told him to tell
    me to call them
    6. I called them w/ the information of the current phn #, and acct #.
    7. Once I was talkign to a customer rep, I told them I was taking over
the account -- and they verified this using the name the original owner
had given them (..and of course they ask for your social security # and
    what not)
    8. They did a credit check -- and I came out good
    9. Contract was transfered to me!
    10. I asked to change the phone number to a number local to me --- No
    problem!!
    11. I got the phone a couple days later, and went to my local cingular
store to pick up my FREE sim card to use with my new number -- great
    feeling!

That's it! I already got my first bill under my name -- everythign
checked out and I only have 4 months left on my contract --whooHOOO!
Screw 2-year contracts! this is the way to go!

....as you can tell I have been burned in the past by a 2-year contract.
Bare with me, it stil lhurts.

What happens if the person I sell your contract to is a deadbeat? Is My
    credit affected?

Re: Found 6-month Cingular contract w/ free phone

Nope...I asked this question too. The contract is COMPLETELY
transfered out of one person's name into another's...meaning the two
accounts have nothing to do with each other. Once you are out..you are
out. They can't come back and try to collect from you if the person
    taking-over is late on payments.

Like in my case, when they transfered me, they gave me my own Cingular
account...so your not simply making payments on someone's account. One
thing to note is that the contract cannot be transfered if there is a
remaining balance...so you can't ditch like $300 in late payments to
    someone.

    I am soooo smart.

Exactly. Like in my case, i couldn't find anyone i knew to take over
the contract..i mean most peopel i know are already under a
contracts...so resellular is the next best thing.

But it does make it much more convinient for people looking for smaller
contracts. It seems like all the wireless providers are even doing
away with 1-year plans. All the specials I see now are for
    2-years...ridiculious

No big deal? -- haha! I am glad the guys at Ebay didn't listen to you

Oh, pretty cool. I didn't know Cingular got involved in the process.

Interesting idea, and good domain name. The site would have a better chance
of success by making it free to list, then charging a fee upon a successful
transfer, and providing some sort of guarantee to both parties that the
seller will deliver the goods, and the buyer will assume the contract.
    Otherwise, what happens if:

    a. the buyer assumes the contract, then never receives the phone, or

    b. the seller sends the phone, but the buyer never assumes the contract.

The site should require a credit card guarantee from both parties, to insure
    completion of the transfer.
