When I have my McAfee firewall up and running, Cingular Communications
Manager keeps my cell modem from connecting to the internet. Cingular says
its not their problem, and I can't find any reference on the McAfee site.
Is there a way to connect to the net via cell modem and keep my firewall
    up?

    Have you tried McAfee Support?

I had the same problem with ZoneAlarm. The older versions of ZoneAlarm
worked OK, but the newer ones (as of last summer) would not work with
my cellular connection. I had no problems with my DSL connection.

I have been using Kerio Personal Firewall since last summer without a
problem. It is a highly recommended firewall like ZoneAlarm and
McAfee. There is a free version, and a more powerful pay-for version
    ($19.95).

Although I said I had the same problem, that isn't exactly true. My
problem was that ZoneAlarm would hang and quit working. If I switched
user accounts on my laptop, I lost firewall protection unless I shut
down the firewall before switching users, then restarted ZoneAlarm
after logging in as a different user. Sometimes I would have to
reboot. Other times I had to reinstall ZoneAlarm.
