The My Ebay link ALWAYS prompts for a password. As does bidding.

You're a lucky one then. This is a VERY well documented problem that has
existed since the beginning of ebay.

Bidding is a different issue. I'm talking access to My eBay.

The screens on ebay that expect a password use HTTPS encryption.

But yes, it's otherwise a bad idea to use unecrypted services on a public
computer or open WiFi connection. Things like POP mailbox access send your
password as CLEAR TEXT, readable by anyone else on the network using a
simple program like Ethereal. Best to either use a secured VPN back to a
secure network or use encrypted services.

Which is meaningless if (say) a malware keystroke logger is running on the
computer you're using, capturing your password as you type it *before*
encryption is applied. It's a very real problem with public or shared
computers that you have no control over.

There is *no* real security with a public or shared computer no matter whether
you use VPN or encrypted services!

OT PDQ FYI: 1.5.0.3 is out as of yesterday, just in case you haven't been
    auto-updated.

    Already done, but thanks.

On Cingular's own forum, everytime I come back I have to keep logging
in again even though I check the box to: "Remember my login on this

frequent that require log-ins. They remember me.

I think I may have found a reason for this. When I am at home
connected using my laptop via my WiFi router/ap, I regularly have the
problem stated above. When I am away from home connected using the
same laptop via Cingular's Laptop Connect EDGE service, I have to
re-login occasionally, but not everytime like I do at home. Perhaps if
your IP address changes, Cingular's forum requires you to login again.
Like I stated before, on other forums I frequent that require log-ins,
I do not have this problem. I believe Cingular is trying to get too
fancy coding their web pages - and for what noble purpose?. This
causes problems that are not normally seen elsewhere.

That makes sense -- limiting saved authentication to a given IP address is a
    not uncommon security practice.
