Where can I find objective reviews re. security and/or
antivirus software for the Nokia 9300 (Symbian Series 80)?
On a related note, are either Symantec Mobile Security 4.0
for Symbian and/or Symantec Client Security 3.0 for Nokia
Communicator applicable for use on Cingular?
What is the difference between those two Symantec products?
Neither their website nor the customer-service rep with
whom I spoke were particularly helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Hello!
Rem: by the way, you can use your default system antivirus in your PC for
checking files in Nokia 9300. Oxygen Phone Manager II for Symbian OS phones
( http://www.opm-2.com/symbian/ ) has a special feature which allows to
check the files, you've downloaded from Nokia 9300, with your default
antivirus software. There is no need to install any applications on your
smartphone: our program allows to check the files on your PC and, therefore,
saves the disk space and total perfomance of your phone.
Best regards, Maxim Vyalkov.

Re: Which AntiVirus for Nokia 9300 on Cingular?
Actually Maxim, not all anti-virus products will scan Symbian OS phones
from a PC. McAfee won't, for instance, unless you have certain phones.
The poster was asking about the difference between the two Symantec
products, not looking for an advert for Oxygen Phone Manger (which, by
the way, is overpriced and no better than the free Nokia Phone Manger -
I have no connection with either company, so am talking from an
unbiased point of view.).
The difference, as I understand it, is that, whilst one product sits on
your mobile phone & constantly monitors what is going on, the other
sits on your PC and allows you to scan your phone via bluetooth or
cable/IR connection. The advantage to the latter is that it doesn't
slow your phone down by constantly monitoring what's going on, the
disadvantage is that, as virii become 'smarter' it may prove impossible
to scan your phone due to the links being disabled by the virus. I've
not heard of it happening yet, but I can see it coming. Also, if you
don't make constant backups of your phone, you stand to loose data
before you can identify/eliminate the virus.
Hope this helps?
As for the constant adverts from Oxygen that appear here, surely these
are unsolicited and, as such, should be banned?

Yes, I know it, but some antivirus programs do this job. For example, common
Kaspersky antivirus ( http://www.kaspersky.com/ ) detects Symbian OS viruses
even in desktop edition. It seems, that this feature will be implemented in
all other antivirus program's in the most nearest future.

Our antivirus feature doesn't scan the phone constantly via bluetooth or
infrared: it just scans the files already downloaded from your phone to our
interface. I.e., it works in offline mode. So it doesn't slow the phone
either.

This will never happen, as our antivirus feature doesn't intervene into the
phone's processes anyhow. It just scans the files in our program's
interface.
