    hi everyone,

i've seen several posts about my problem (which i describe below), but
i haven't seen any discussion on it for a whie. so i thought i would
bring it up again and see what i get.

i have a cingular 8125, configured to download my gmail via POP. i can
connect and download the email just fine, but next time i do a
send/receive my gmail emails are deleted from my 8125, even when i
leave them marked as "unread" on the gmail server.

someone suggested that this is an issue that gmail has to sort out -
i'm curious to know if anyone knows what's happening with this issue,
or if you've found a work around.

    thanks.

To me it sounds like an 8125 issue, not a Gmail issue.

Gmail works fine with the POP3 email client in my Cingular-branded Motorola
V551, although I personally prefer to use the WAP interface.

i don't think it's exclusively an issue with the 8125. i'm betting that
it's an issue with windows mobile 5.0.

Re: cingular 8125 and POP gmail

so far the only fix i've read about this is to change the settings of
the pop account so that you limit it to download onlt message headers,
but set that limit at 999kb. in essence downloading the whole message.

i've also read a rumor that because google and microsoft are at
eachother's throats as competitors, there isn't likely a high priority
on making POP access work correctly for gmail users.

i love this phone, and WM 5.0 is super slick, but i'm seriously about
to take this phone back, save the money, and then get the treo 700 with
palm (hopefully it will come out sometime in the next 100 years). it's
so stupid that a simple feature on integrated software should not work.

    it's just crazy.

As I wrote, to me it sounds like an 8125 issue, not a Gmail issue or a
    Microsoft issue.

john... sorry to sound like a jerk, but it seems like you don't have
any more of an idea than i do about what the issue is. why don't you go
look at the microsoft PPC and WM groups - people with other windows
mobile devices are having the same problem.

Fair enough, but then why claim that Google is in any way responsible for it?
All I've been saying is the Google Mail works properly, as verified with
several POP3 clients, and there's no way for it to delete mail from the 8125
in any event. So, assuming there's not some sort of configuration issue, the
sole responsibility is on the company that wrote the email client. If that's
Microsoft, then you might want to look into some other email client (if
    available). I don't think we're all that far apart -- I just don't think
    Google is at fault.
