    Hi!
I have an audiovox w/ cingular unlimited data plan for $19.99. Are
there any different with the cingular PDA data plan, as in term of the
speed? I'm asking this bcuz I'm planning to get a PDA phone. And as
your know PDA data plan cost twice as much as the regular data
plan...and I can't afford that. One more question, if i switch the gsm
card to the PDA phone, will Cingular know that i'm using a PDA phone on
    a small phone's data plan?

    Thanks for any replys.

    Re: Data Plan

Cingular can tell that you are using a PDA. Whether they will take the time
and energy to do so is another matter. You would be leaving yourself open
for extra charges though. You would not be paying more for higher speeds,
the reason for the extra charge is that the PDA is sending a lot more data
back and forth than a regular phone, that's why it has a better browser and
    a higher charge.

    No difference in speed.

Not directly, and the difference would be hard to infer.

I experience the same speeds with either plan, but really see a
difference when using Bluetooth vs. data cable.

To reduce the number of variables, I used the same laptop and same
phone, but swapped the SIM card with another user's card and tried it in
    different parts of the county.

Data cable gets between 30 Kbps to 120 Kbps, Bluetooth often stalled out
    and rarely over 40 Kbps.

Where I live is problematic, speeds often drop below dial-up speeds when
I'm on the east side of the local tower and Bluetooth is unusable its so
slow. That problem started about the time Cingular turned up a TDMA
tower (yes, that what the technician told me - TDMA, but the tower
wasn't data capable yet). The speed loss can happen in the middle of the
night. so I doubt its a cell loading problem. The original tower is
3,500 feet from me and the new one is 2,200 feet. Both are in line of
sight from my front porch. Signal levels look fine and no significant RF
noise around between 8 MHz and 16 GHz when looked at with spectrum
analyzer. I'll try out a corner reflector antenna to see if its that new
    tower causing the problems.

On a side note, there have been several users in this market that have
had their data access cut off and had to upgrade to the PDA plan.

Properly installed and configured, Bluetooth is comparable in speed to cable.

There is no real evidence of that.

It worked fine up to two months ago on laptop and desktop PC three
months ago. Without any changes at the Bluetooth end, the problem
started up about two months ago.

In fact, the desktop wasn't even turned on again once I got the
Bluetooth running just fine on it for a week, i.e. no configuration
changes or any other software added or changed. After I started having
the problems, I tried the desktop and the same speed issues appeared.

You mean you just haven't found it on Google yet. There *is* life
outside of Google, ya know. Gee...It must be dark in your Shirley
    McClain universe.

Tell that to the users down here that had their access cut off.

I guess it depends on the bluetooth stack. The bluetooth in my PDA
only supports up to 115K, on the PC it supports significantly higher.

My main issue is that, on the 2 Moto phones I've had, bluetooth seems
flakey, and I have to power cycle the phone too often to get it to
work. But if it had been a cable connection, it would never have
worked at all with my PDA.

Update your Moto phones to the latest firmware -- that solved connection
    problems on my V551.

I had these problems with the V551. Then, after it dies, I bought a
V557, and it acts similar. And I assumed the firmware on the 557 was
    newer.
