    No. Verizon is CDMA2000. Cingular is GSM. Totally different.

    In the particular case in question, it is more accurate to say that Verizon is
    CDMA2000/EVDO. There are two separate air interfaces on that phone. It is
    possible to get one or the other or both or neither. I often see EVDO having
    a better signal than CDMA2000 voice [in terms of the number of bars].
