We just got our second phone for family plan. Thanks to the SIM I was able
to copy the 70 existing contacts from one phone to the other.

However, there are several edits I would like to do to the names that would
be far easier if I could do it from my PC. I understand there are USB port
SIM readers and writers out there for $15 to $30.

    Has anyone tried one?

Specific for our SIM on either the Cingular CG225 or Samsung SGH-x497?

Not a SIM card editor, but it should do what you want: Samsung PC
Studio <http://tinyurl.com/mrqb5>. Hmmm, but your phone doesn't have
bluetooth, how to connect to PC? That I don't know.

Generally, a phone is able to store details that aren't available in a
SIM, so connecting each phone, using a phone program, rather than a SIM
reader, would be advantageous, or the software could be used as a SIM
reader for different SIMs in the same phone.

Datapilot or Mobile Phone Sync are two such products.
Each of these phones seem to have proprietary USB cables, so you'd have to
buy two, but that might still be cheaper and more satisfactory than a SIM
    reader device and its software.

A quick Google search turned this up:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting

Pretty inexpensive, too. That was just the first of 572,000 results for "SIM
card USB read write" (no quotes).

I sent a private message (inside ebay) to one of their 99 cent cards ($10
shipping) and asked if would work for either of my specific SIMS. I hope to
    hear from that soon.
