I currently have a Motorola V220 and have had it since Jan. 2005. It's time
for a new battery and I figured I"d just get a new phone.
The reception on mine isn't the greatest. As far as Cingular claiming to be
the lowest in drop calls - I don't really agree with that.
I like the features this phone has - especially the USB port for which I can
use to download pictures and ringtones from my computer.
One of the minuses is the volume on the ringtones. Sometimes if I'm in a
public place, I don't even here it ring.
Any suggestions on which kind to buy? My husband has an LG and the volume on
ringtones is louder than mine....
would like to have the USB port if possible -
THANKS

I think it's because of your phone.
My rather simple Nokia 3120 pooped out on me after i dropped it once
the wrong way (quite a literal dropped call), and I'm now on an
inherited Moto V400 and this thing sucks in comparison--call
intelligibility is worse with it, the speakerphone is horrible, and
more to the point of your concerns, it drops calls much more than my
Nokia did (which was hardly every, in the very same areas).
I believe your V220 is a cousin of the V400.

For what it's worth, I had an LG 1300 phone for a day (not a current
model mind you). That thing REALLY sucked brand new, even worse than
this aging V400 with respect to voice quality and call dropping.
I've got my eye on the Nokia 6061. I just got one of those for a
family member on my plan and it seems very solid. When I'm eligible
to upgrade in a few months, I'll be lookin at that.

You'd probably like the Motorola RAZR or SLVR, have a look at those....

A few weeks ago, my wife and I were looking at getting new phones. A
friend of ours stated how happy he was with his Sony Ericsson. That got me
to looking at those, and as a result, I got us two of the Z535a Sony
Ericsson models.
http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...=pp1&pid=10439
This phone rocks! Though our friend uses a USB cable to transfer files from
his PC to his phone, we simply use the cool and nifty Bluetooth technology
to wirelessly transfer files. Thus far, I've created about 75 ringtones
(using the cool and free "Audacity" program to edit MP3's), and have settled
on using about a dozen of them in regular usage. We both think that
Bluetooth is fantastic, and would encourage you to get this phone...

Sorry for the typo. That model Z535a should read Z525a.

I tend to stick with Nokia because of their consistent power supply specs.
I've got AC and auto power supplies from 10 years ago that still work with my
newest (albeit not all that new...) Nokia phones.

Agreed.
Now if Nokia would just get their head out of their ass in the
"standard headset jack" department!

Re: Any suggestions on phone brand?
I recently got 2-RAZRs for our household and we like them thus far.
Replaced: Motorola 2 year old V551 and 6 month old Nokia 6102 which is a
piece of junk. I know 4 people that had this particular nokia and it isn't
the old Nokia quality we all came to love ... each of these phones broke in
different places!

Re: Any suggestions on phone brand?
I like Samsung phones. They have their quirks, but I haven't had a problem
with my s307 since I bought it.
Ever since the great PacBell Startac disaster, I've avoided Motorola phones
whenever possible.
My wife's Motorola died twice in a year's time, and we use Nextel Motorolas
at work...Pure junk.

A battery is probably cheaper.

In that case, go with a new phone. Moto has had some turkeys as well
as stellar performers.

Take a look at the RAZR. I don't use one, being a Palm Treo fan, but
from everything I've heard about them, they are at least as good as the
classic StarTac was. I was once in a Cingular store looking for a
pouch or case and a clerk was setting up someone's new RAZR - I could
hear its speakerphone clear across the room, louder than the clerk.

Re: Any suggestions on phone brand?
that's good to know that I can go Bluetooth and not have to be hooked up
with the USB cable.
So, it's pretty easy to use???
I had forgotten to mention in my original post about the speaker phone part
of it - it's kind of sorry as well....
Thanks!

Yes, I'd say that Bluetooth is easy to use. It is like many other things;
the first time you use it, you are in uncharted waters. But once you learn
how to use the wireless transfer, you think "Boy! This is some great
stuff!"

This feature works very well on the Z525.
