    My audiovox smt5600 stuck in headset profile. This affects my ability
    to change profiles, ring volume etc.. i can use the phone normally
    without the headset, and also use it with my bluetooth headset.

    I have tried plugging in the headset and also another headset, and
    removing it; also removed the battery and sim card for a few minutes
    and restarted it, no effect.

    any advice on solving this? I have returned this phone many times for
    bigger problems and would like to avoid another exchange.

    Likey it's a bad headset jack- I had a Nokia 3650 that did this.
    Replacing the jack fixed it. If it was a software glitch, resetting
    should've fixed it. I suspect the switch inside the jack assembly is
    bent in the closed position making your phone "think" the headset is
    always plugged it.

    Unless the jack is user replacable, (like the Niokia's was) I think an
    exchange is in your future. Good luck.
