I've done some tethered wap@cingular.. experiments in the Ocala Florida
area and have been faced with some awfully slow hop times (traceroute
like 1500+ms. per hop) as well as timeouts (temporarily unreachable
sites).
It doesn't seem to correlate rigidly with time of day but is often
worst at open and close of business. I can clear the system by
disconnecting and immediately reconnecting but that doesn't always
work. It happens both with a V551 and Nokia E62.
I'd try the ISP@CIngular... route, but if I try it I'll irrevocably
lose my grandfathered Media Works WIX.
John Navas has already opined that it isn't likely to be the wap/isp
server problem & if that's the case it'd be silly for me to change.
So I'd really like to hear about performance from someone in this area
who is using the isp... server in this area. Is your performance
experience similar to mine?

Probably poor signal and/or device. Possibly overloaded network.
Latency with good signal and device is a few hundred ms.

With either WAP or ISP -- no meaningful difference in latency.

Re: wap vs isp performance, Ocala Area?
I have similar problems at 5:00pm everyday in Northeast Atlanta. Seems to
be problem with the network getting too busy, as it is often hard to get
calls through at this time as well.
