Does anyone know why a brand new 512 MB micro SD card only shows 483.56mb
when installed on a 8525?. I don't have any programs running. Is there
something added by the Mobile PC 5.0 OS that uses this space.

    Thanks,

    Terry D.

P.S.: This is happening on (2) 8525 units with 512 MB micro SD cards.

    Relax- it's normal!

Some of the loss is to formatting and file system overheat (FAT or "File
Allocation Tables") but most of the "loss" is "memory math."

In computerese, a MB is 2^20 bytes, or 1,048,576 bytes. However, hard
disk and flash card companies round a MB to an even 1,000,000 bytes. So,
your manufacturer is claiming your card has 512 MB, or 512,000,000 bytes,
which your computer thinks is 512,000,000 / 1,048,576 or 488.28125 MB.
You've lost the rest to file system overhead.

It's happening to the xx GB hard disks on your PCs as well!
