Picked up a new KRZR K1 at Wal-Mart this morning. Price was $77.88
plus tax with 2-year renewal. I think the salesperson took the easy
way out and stuck the sim from my V551 into the KRZR. When I put the
sim in that came with the phone, naturally it shows to be not
    registered.

The sim from the V551 says, Cingular 64K smartchip. The new
    (unregistered) sim says, Cingular 3G. I'm assuming I can't use 3G
without the new chip. Do I need to call Cingular to register the new
    sim?

Called them a while ago, and it took only a few minutes to deactivate
the old sim and activate the new one.

And let's see if in a month or so a $36 charge shows up on your Cingular
    bill!

I will watch for it and other charges and report back to you. The
clerk at Wal-Mart kind of "made-up" the monthly charges and
cancellation charge as I didn't have my paperwork with me for the
existing account. I told him I paid "about" $60 per month, so he
wrote $60 on the contract. I have no idea what AT&T will do with
    those numbers.
