blackberry desktop manager help please

New user for this thing and am trying to import an address book from a
csv file.

I get as far as mapping the fields.

It should show on the left side the blackberry fields and on the right
the fields from my csv file.

Instead it shows on the right the same fields as on the left - not very
useful.

The second problem I have is that I anyway just do the sync (import
really) I get the error

Unable to initialize application API.
Verify that correct application version is installed.

Any suggestions welcome.

Just to add a bit more info.

This is a new Pearl and I installed from the CD that came with it. I
think the software was 4.2.0.

I downloaded 4.2 SP2 (4.2.2) - all 240 MB - and installed that but get
the same problems.
