Re: RIM Blackberry 8830 World Edition Smartphone

I got one on the other day at a local VZW store.
After rebate, about $100 it appears. Guess they
really want to lock you in for voice+data for two years.

The battery has an encryption chip so you can't buy an
affordable aftermarket battery when the supplied battery
dies. This may be enough for me to take it back.

So far I haven't been able to get the map feature to work.

The media player is not ready for prime time.
When I plug in stereo headphones I get stereo
in the phones for a second or two, than the phones
cut out. I did not have this problem with my
    Kyocera 7135.

The same can be said for the internet browser.
Opera mini fixes some of the problems. Web browsing
is terribly slow - reminds me of dialup.

The worldwide roaming charges may be high enough it
would be cheaper to get a cheap local phone.

The ringer is too soft even at its loudest.

I was able to get the Blackberry mail gateway to
poll my mail server and forward stuff to the Blackberry
    every minute or so.
