Just curious... my contract will need to be renewed in a few weeks.
Right now I have an LG c1300i. Contract renewals entitle us to a phone
upgrade. I like this phone but hey, a new phone is always cool and who
knows what the life expectancy is on cell phones these days.
I like the Motorola RAZR v3 but I'm not sure about a few things.
1.) Is it the original v3 or one of the updated versions like the v3i
(more memory, reinforced hinge, high megapixel camera, etc). From what
I've read the original v3 is kinda a piece of crap, hence the updated
versions.
2.) I know a RAZR 2 is supposed to be released soon... the new an
improved version. This has me wondering which other RAZR models will
get downgraded to free or very well priced "upgrades". When the RAZR
was first released like 2 years ago I think it was like $100-150 to get
one... and now it's free so I can only assume the ones that are that
price range now would drop down when the newest RAZR comes out. It has
a release date of July 07, so I assume it's either on it's way out or
will be out when it comes time for our renewal.
3.) If you have owned one has it held up for the last two years
reasonably well? The LG phone I have is pretty tough... I drop it on
the pavement once in a while and it gets nicks in it but it never
affects the function. I hear the RAZRs are kinda fragile.
4.) I have Java games on my LG. Will the service guys transfer those
games onto a RAZR for me?
Yeah, it's free but I don't want something that's going to break.

I owned one for about two days. Didn't get the bars I needed in
several areas. Swapped it for an Nokia 6133 and the problem
went away.
But that's on tMob. From what I've heard, Cingular's coverage is
better and the ability to acquire a weaker signal might not be as
much of an issue.

I have two of the Razr's. My first one did not last a skip across the
parking lot (it slipped out of my holder, while I was running) I don't think
the fall killed it, since I've dropped it a few times, but the fact it was
raining and got wet inside is my guess on why it died.
The GF's phone has lasted well, she's more carefull though and has only
dropped it on carpet. She's owned other phones and likes the razr best of
all. The Razr is my first phone so I don't really quaify to offer a expert
opinion. Overall the phone does exactly what I need, it makes and receives
calls.
My one main complaint is the way it handles a perceived weak Bluetooth
signal. it will mute the call and ask if I want to switch to headset, the
only option is to say yes. So I have to wait 10-15 secs before it goes back
to the call, this is fairly annoying because it's normally a false weak
signal message. It's normally if I'm around alot of wireless network stuff,
like a home router. If it would just give me the option to say NO to the
switch,I would be happy.

Re: A few RAZR questions
I myself am on my second razor...the original V3 was in a jacket pocket and
it was raining. Only thing it does now is power on and thats it! My V3xx
works like a champ. Slightly longer but better everything!

The V3xx is better received, but I didn't like mine. The Krzr is said to
be better at RF, but doesn't have 3G. You might check to see if you are in
a 3G area where that might make a difference. WalMart seems to be about
the cheapest place to walk in and buy a Cingular phone. If you don't like
it, you can return it and try something different. The V3xx is free, and
the Krzr pays you $50. http://walmart.letstalk.com
I like my Nokia 6126 which is free at Cingular, $49 at Walmart, but is not
3G. That doesn't matter in the areas where I typically travel. The N75
has 3G, $99 at cingular, $29 at WalMart. <shrug>
http://www.cingular.com/coverageviewer/ check the "3G" box if you are
zoomed in on a place of interest.

It's free for new customers or $100 for renewals.
WTF?
I really don't understand why they're doing that. It's like they
don't want repeat customers. I've been paying my bill on time for
years and yet they'll treat new customers better than me.

Simple.
We allow them to.

It is probably also free with a contract extension. That's probably on the
site somewhere. It is at Amazon, now.

Nope. Free with new 2-year contract. $100 with 2-year extension of
existing contract.
That is not fair. Given that I already feel like I pay WAY too much
for monthly service, I will be looking at other carriers.

The prices wander, but a while back, when WalMart listed listed the Krzr
for $77 for new customers, Dick said:
http://tinyurl.com/25qo49
"I paid $77 for a KRZR K1 at Walmart for an existing customer. Had to
sign a 2-year renewal, but doesn't matter as I'm not going anywhere. "
wallmart.letstalk.com says the "$100 instant discount w/2
year agreement!" on the free V3xx is for new or exstension contracts.

Re: A few RAZR questions
Definitely not fair. I have to wonder if you told them... "Fine...
cancel me and then I'll sign back up... or you can just let AT&T know
that they lost a customer for being greedy a**holes."
I would consider writing a letter to the top brass and I'd bet they
woudl waive the fee if it's free for new customers.

Re: A few RAZR questions
Yep I do agree with everyone....our renewal...for existing customers is $50
after rebate and the standard 2 yr renewal. Free to new customers after $50
rebate.
