Can I use my Cingular airtime for short laptop use?

Hello,

I have a Motorola V3 RAZR, and Cingular service.
I'd like to connect my V3 as a dial up modem for my laptop,so i can
work on the internet,
only for very limited use on the ocassional trips i take,

Can I do this without a data plan?
Can I use my airtime?

Please advise,

Thank you,

J

Not that I'm aware.

No.

If you only go so often, add a data plan for the month or week or
whatever that you ened. If your phone is capable the laptop tethering
plan is something you can pop on and off you raccount at will, at
least that's what they told me a few months ago.

If you're connecting a laptop to it, technically you'll need the
laptop connect data plan that'll be a $60/month adder to you bill.
And you'll have to wait a whiel before the leming you talk to on the
phone figures out where the feature is and how to add it to your phone
unless you have a smart phone.

Depends on whether you can find a CS rep that can/will add "WAP-my
wireless window" ($3.99) to the account. I still have it but then I've
had it for years so I have no idea if they will add it to a new account.
It allows you to connect (built in browser or tethered) via dialup
connection using CSD (circuit switched data) which comes out of the
minutes pool--but at the blazing speed of 9600-12000bps. Okay for pop
email which is why I still have it.

You used to be able to get "CSD" as an option, for 9600 baud "dialup". I
was told it was no longer available, even after I asked for the specific
feature code, so the rep didn't have to pick it from the list of current
offerings.

What you could do is subscribe to a data plan when you are going to go out
of town, and cancel it when you get back. I have a data plan that I
thought I was going to use a lot, but the need for it went away as WiFi
became more widely available. Now I only use it during power failures ;-)

My AT&T DSL includes WiFi access, and even before that, paying a day rate
was a good solution in terms of finances and speed. The original V3 only
did GPRS speeds on the data plan, somewhere around 30Kbps. The V3xx does
3G, which might be faster than the local Wifi hotspots.
