blackberry worthless?

I just got the blackberry pearl, and hoping for some feedback to this
post.

What makes most internet sites useful for media is 1) Windows Media
Player Streams
2) Realplayer 3) Flash Video (e.g. YouTube).

Guess what? Is it true this blackberry pearl can't do anything
above? Looks like I need
to take this back and get a phone with the Mobile Windows.

Why? If you pay 35/month for unlimited internet data package, and
your phone can
stream at least windows media, you just now have thousands of online
radio stations
to choose from. Looks like this blackberry is only good for sending
messages, and
web browsing.

Am I wrong about blackberry pearl? Do I have any options to make this
useful for
web media? And yes I have opera mini installed. Still doesnt play
any useful streaming anything.
Thanks,

yin99

Yes...You bought a functional cellphone with PDA capabilities,
not an entertainment center.

great. year 2008 and RIM can not include a streaming player on such a
capable device.

by the way, i'd hardly call streaming audio or flash video from a
website an "entertainment
center". nice touch actually i remember playing mobi tv (sp?) on
sprint phone from 5 years
ago. shocked this nice blackberry phone from 2008 can't do what my
free cheap no featured
sprint phone from 5 years ago could do.

Where do you pay 35/month for unlimited data package?

Not as much "cannot" as "Has made a decision to focus on the market that
doesn't want media functionality"

That's tied to certain phones, iirc.

An exposed keyboard you don't have to hunt for? A better security
model? Something free of Microsoft stuff? There are lots of reasons
one might prefer blackberry.

Now, I have an AT&T Tilt, but somedays I'd rather have a blackberry
Pearl. The WM6 based Tilt is not a terribly elegant phone I'm afraid
(it's got every feature in the book, but it's not elegant or a joy to
use), and the keyboard just goes to show that bigger doesn't actually
mean easier to type on. I imagine one could be much more efficient on
a BB keyboard than the width of the tilt keyboard. It's a nice PDA
you can make calls with though. But to be honest, most days I leave
it at home and pocket my Krazr K1.

Best Regards,

Ostensibly, though any SmartPhone/PDA seems to trigger the option.

iPaq? Hard and soft KBs.

Agreed, personal preferences are what makes the market go 'round.

My Pearl (8130) plays media file like .wav, .mp3 and youtube videos. Are you sure there isn't some other problem?

Sounds like someone didn't do their research before buying a BB.
