I have browsed the forum and not seen this issue posted elsewhere, so here
goes:
I've had my 6340 for quite some time now (since early 2003) and it has
started freezing up. Most often when I dial a number it just sits there. The
signal can be full, so I doubt it searching for that. I've also had a few
rare occasions where it just shut off. I noticed a post or two about that
and getting the latest s/w. Would I have to take the phone to Cingular to
get that loaded?
Also, how do I tell what version of the s/w I am currently running. The
phone also occasioanlly looses it memory, or programming or whatever. (when
making calls I get info from other carriers, like it is hooking up with the
wrong tower or something) I must say, this is the worst phone I have ever
owned. btw-If anyone hear has contacts within Cingular, tell them to quit
making the phones smaller and smaller. If your not a woman or 5ft tall the
phone feels like a toy.
Sorry for ranting!

Re: 6340i freezes up
I should clarify, when ranting about phone size I'm not talking about the
6340. That is the main reason I purchased it. My wife has a 3395 or
something similiar and it is way to small (IMHO)
I'd hate for them to all end up like that.

Re: 6340i freezes up
The first question I have is it a 6340 or 6340i as you refer to both in
your post? To get the software ver.: *#0000#. The latest ver. I have
seen posted is 8.05.3. The bad news, is you have to send the phone away
4-6 weeks for repair to get it updated. Cingular stores supposedly
don't do software upgrades anymore. Possibly a non-company store may
still have the equipment to do the upgrade. Good Luck.

Re: 6340i freezes up
I was under the impression that it was a 6340i, but I see no reference to
the "i" anywhere on the phone. software version is v 8.01.2
inside battery cover, phone is listed as model 6340
I think I will just get a new phone, as I have not been at all pleased with
this one from the get go.
Thanks,
BS

The 6340 was a test balloon that quickly deflated, and was the primary
reason for replacing it with the 6340i. Complaints such as yours are
well known amoung CS folks.

Re: 6340i freezes up
Yes, alot of times it's the battery contacts on both the phone and battery.
The contacts get oxidized which causes bad connection and voila your phone
shuts down. But this may also be possible because of a faulty battery as
well. Not all techs know about this problem or know how to troubleshoot so
you'll get mixed responses.
This may sound corny but it has worked for me many times. Take a eraser
(like for pencils) and use it to rub firmly on all the metal contacts on the
phone and battery. Make sure you rub it good and see if it helps.
