I just got me a Sony Ericcson T616 today. I love the phone for the most
part so far, however i am not sure i'm going to keep the phone as i was
not set up the way i had hoped i would be able to. I am in the Austin,
TX market, and GSM phones just went on sale two mondays ago. I had
recently upgraded to the 6340i, so i was not eligable to upgrade to one
of the cool new phones. What i had hoped to do was go pay full retail
for the t616, and just take the sim card from my 6340i and pop it in my
t616 and be ready to go. This way, i could use the t616 when in the
metro area and not travelling, but pick up the 6340i and put the SIM
back in it for when i go deep into TDMA or AMPS territory. Anyway, the
reps in the store (or more accurately, the reps on the phone that the
store rep has to call to get anything done) said there was no way i
could do this. i made him put my old SIM in the sony phone to check to
see if it would work, and of course it wouldn't. It said no access. I
was under the impression from reading this forum that i would be able to
use both the GAIT and GSM phone with the same SIM without a hitch. Is
there something special i need to do with either or my phones to get
this to work? as it is now, i have been switched to a GSM only phone and
plan. I want the freedom to use the entire cingular network, not have to
choose either GSM and GAIT. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Re: new Sony T616

I was able to move my SIM from my GAIT T62u to my SE T68i for a couple of
weeks, then the T68i stopped working. The T62u still works. I called support
and they said my SIM had been 'fried' and to go get a new one. I haven't
    done that yet.
