    Hello,

We are totally new to wireless phones and could use some help. We are using
Cingular. My wife has the Sony Ericsson T316 and I have the Nokia 3300. I
do not have the WIX yet but my wife does. I will order mine on monday. She
was never going to do the picture thing but they gave her a camera
attachement for free so that is why she ordered the WIX. We know that as
of yet we can not send pictures, phone to phone but she can not even send
pictures as an attachement to email or text messages and we understood that
we could do that? If the time comes that we figure it out how to send
pictures via email or text, does that count off the 1 megabyte or does that
only count when sending phone to phone? Also, what are unlock codes and
what do they do? Are they legal? Everywhere I go I read about unlock codes.
I have no idea about any of this stuff and could really appreciate some
help. I can't even get my phone to send email but I had no problem sending
email with my old AT and T account which had no internet services on it? So
Im pretty confused and would appreciate some help or maybe a link to
somewhere I can get some "straight" talk that would help a cell phone dummy.
    Thanks again.

Well, something you need to understand is what you see on TV is not
necessarily the way things work in the real world.

Anytime you access the network and send data of any kind that will
count against your data allowance. The bigger the amount of data
transferred the more it will count against your data allowance.

When referring to GSM phones they are usually locked by the
manufacturer for your carrier so you cannot easily use your phone on
another network as the carrier has subsidized the cost of your phone
for you when you got the phone. Once you have removed the carrier's
SIM restriction you can use any carrier's SIM in your phone. If you
attempt to use a SIM from another carrier other than your own and if
your phone is locked it will reject the foreign SIM.

Did you call cingular customer care and ask them about it?
Considering that they are your carrier they should have some answers
    for you I would think.

    Thomas,

The unlock codes while I don't know if they are legal, would be for
example, if you wanted to use your AT&T phone on the Cingular network.
Someone whould have to unlock it so the phone was no longer set for
AT&T. Then Cingular could program it to work on their service.

As for the sending pictures. Look in the phones menu. In the Message
section see if you have a "Send picture message". If you have that or
something like it, then that is where you would send the pictures
from. As far as I know that option would not use the WIX features. IF
you sent them via the WIX yes, it would use up megs.

I think I answered all your questions. Feel free to e-mail me directly
if you have more. I would be happy to try and help you.

Cingular reserves the right to discontinue their services should you
spend more time on other systems than theirs. Unlocking a phone may not
be the way to go until your contract is ending (then it won't matter).
Any extra activity you do, whether going onto the Internet or sending
pictures is added onto your minutes- in addition to the service fee.
(Unless this practice has recently changed.)

    Re: New To Wireless

I believe the service we pay for, the 6.99 a month does not count against
our minutes. Thats what they told us.

When you send pictures via email, you are using from your 1 megabite of
data. Pictures can range in size from as small as 20kb to as large as
roughly 75kb. There are 1024kb in a mb. As far as sending them, you
may want to check www.sonyericsson.com for helpful hints. Also, you may
check www.mywirelesswindow.com (not sure if they detail sending pictures
much there but it may give you some advice on how to use your internet
    svc via your phone.
