Does cingular have international roaming? For example i want to goto England
and want to use my phone there - what are my options? I will be there for
only a week so I don't know if going international roaming or buying a local
sim card would be better. Thanks

yeah i think they do. Its like 79 cents a minute. It probably would be
better to switch your sim card if your phone is already unlocked and able
to accept sim cards other then cingular, but then your number changes.

Yes, cingular does have international roaming. Depending on the kind
of service you have it may be as simple as inserting a SIM into a
compatible phone (if you have GSM.) If you don't have GSM you will
need to get a special SIM from cingular to use in a compatible phone.
You need to have cingular activate international roaming.

This is from the web site, although it is wrong.
I roamed in Canada on Rogers Wireless, was charged 60 cents per minute plus
    60 cents toll charges.
Not sure what the no hidden fees means.

    Convenient
You may be able to use your existing handset and/or SmartChip when you roam
internationally - allowing your friends and family to reach you at your
current phone number and all your calls to bill to your existing phone bill.

    Hassle-free
There are no hidden charges either - adding the service is free and may even
already be included with your current service plan. You pay only the stated
per minute fee for each country.
a.. Receiving a call while roaming internationally
b.. Making a local call while roaming internationally
c.. Making a call to another country while roaming internationally

Note: Roaming is not available with Prepaid service

If you have GSM and call customer service to get "international
roaming" turned on then you can use your phone overseas (assuming you
have a GSM900 or GSM1800 capable phone). GSM900 works in lots of
places, GSM1800 is available mostly in urban areas. Rates vary by
    country and carrier.

You may run into some problems. Even if you have international roaming
on you're account and are using a ‘world phone' (1800/1900/850). The
problem would be the SIM card. New Cingular GSM markets, the ones on
850, use a 410 SIM. The older markets use a 310. The 310 is accepted
almost everywhere. However, the 410 SIM has only been accepted and
tested by a handful of international carries.

    Hope this helps.

Cingular's international roaming rates are outrageous. They are about $0.79
to $3.99 a minute, depending on what country you are in. Here is their rate
    table:

I don't think these rates include long distance.

    mine is a 410. how can I change to a 310?

if worse comes to worst, could I buy a new phone to get a new SIM, and
then return the phone with my old SIM? lol

A follow up to this, I called Cingular. The wait times for customer
service are crazy, takes several minutes to go through the menus
before you get the option to speak to a human.

I asked them about my silly Canadian roaming charges, they said I
didn't get these rates because I wasn't on an international plan?

    What is an international plan?
    Doesn't mention it here:

    Re: International Roaming

I was roming with my Cingular phone back in June in the Bahamas. Even made a
few phone calls back to the states and LOCAL calls without an area code.
I still have not received a bill, then again - if you know anything about
    BATELCO ...
