    He who floats, sands.

Maybe the marketing folks who make the grossly exagerated coverage maps
should explain the holes to the FCC and the FTC; and justify their cell
    companies keeping their license.

Well, you might ask Ed Wallace. He's the one I heard this from, and he's
been in the car reviewing business for decades.

Exactly the opposite is true. With American cars you need to stick to
the maintenance schedule, while with a Toyota or Honda you are far
more likely to get away with something like lack of oil changes. Try not
changing oil on a Saturn for 10K miles--you won't have to bother to
drain the oil as there won't be any left.

Ask any independent mechanic whether a Toyota Corolla or a Ford
    Escort will endure abuse better.

CR consistently recommends American products. Honda Accord and Toyota Camry
are always in their top picks for mid-size cars. Trucks from the so-called
    U.S.
manufacturers are also usually top rated. You can't get much more American
    than
    an Accord, Camry, or Tacoma!

Re: JD Power Rankings 2003 for Wireless Carriers

    I love this metaphor.
JD Powers, as anyone can tell by either walking into their office or
checking their website, is a for-profit organization. Any outfit that
turns out this stuff always gets kickbacks, either in direct funding or
in free commercial support (I gave an example of this). Their reports
are highly subjective. You ask for proof and then blindly provide it.
I stand by my statement. Their reports are not fully trustworthy- no
    one's is.

Is this particular report really about who provides the best service or
who has the best public image? I failed to get anything from this
report that had anything to do with service. This report was regarding
who they thought would have the largest churn when portability kicks in.

Millions of people are not, for example, going to flee from Cingular to
    join Verizon.
Who works the most most on their public image? You get one guess. Can
you hear me now? I almost rolled out of my chair laughing when I saw
that Verizon kept coming out on top when it came to image- What does
that have to do with actual service?
As for a few choice friends who don't like my credibility- So? I guess
I have a very short way to fall. JD Powers is a large corporation
which. It is not my interest to tear them down, too much **** would be
left to clean up afterwords. I'll stick by my opinion on this one.
By the way, US Cellular just got St Louis and Oklahoma for CDMA
coverage, so their ratings will go up.

Yup, people just can't seem to get over that fact. They come up with
all the excuses how JD is biased and all of this **** but sadly the
****ing research is true. Sprint has the worst customer service. They

Well, I was referring to Dodge, GM, and Ford. Not that they don't deserve
to be rated low or anything, it just seems that they consistently get beat
    up by CR.

Re: JD Power Rankings 2003 for Wireless Carriers

This is a simple marketing strategy, not a violation of any law. The
best way to get your product sold today is to go to JD Powers. If they
smile at you then you better make sure that the rest of the world knows
it. Only a fool would ignore making a noise about getting the JD Powers
seal of approval. This ranks far higher than getting Consumer Reports
    on your side.
The more folks like and trust the results of JD Powers the more business
will be brought to them. It is a simple and straight forward marketing
tactic. I know some cell phone users who hang on every word of certain
cell phone users. This is not wrong, but it is unrealistic to make your
every breath rest solely on one person or on organization's claims.
I do not contest this group's decisions, I simply have a different
criteria. Are you aware that if we simply went by alt.Sprint we would
think Sprint is doomed? There are other resources out there. Do your
    own research.
As for the proof of my claim it is in the pudding itself. Open your
eyes and enjoy what you see. It is up to you what spin you want to
attach to what is there in plain sight.
Someone suggested that I was annoyed that JD Powers did not vote in a
way that I liked. Nonsense, the service provider I use still ranks very
high up there, just not for the reasons given in this report. JD is a
voice for public influence. It is not public influence in and of
itself. Do not give them credit they don't deserve. We are the public,
they are an agency. May they have a long and successful carrier. Who
knows, you may end up working for them.

All I'm asking is that you back up your claims. I'm an open minded

Powers, I'll take JD Powers' word.

If you post a story or two that support your claims, I'll be open to
