Living in a rural area, I would hope that the case against VZW would be
won. While in larger markets customers were able to get a VZW plan for
$39.99/month that included 400 anytime and unlimited night and weekends
(America's Choice), in (former) market I was only offered on of two
plans: 24.99/month for 60 anytime minutes or 44.99/month for 120
minutes. Not only would I get fewer minutes, I would not get any of the
standard features such as domestic long distance, voicemail, caller ID,
three way calling, or even off peak minutes of any kind. Not only that,
I would get a phone number from a town 70 miles away. When I moved for
a temporary job in Florida, I looked into either Verizon or Cingular.
The salesman at Radio Shack (selling VVZ) warned me that when I move, I
would probably lose all night/weekend minutes, as they are considered
promotional. He said I would probably have to sign a new contract to
qualify for the 1500 n/w weekend minutes that were first available this
year. Finally, after talk that VZW would implement WLNP before the
official rollout date, Verizon started offering unlimited night and
weekend minutes on select plans. (We are not a top 100 market, and are
therefore not required to have it on November 24, but VZW says it will
probably allow customers to port numbers in sometime in January).
