Considering a Siemens SL56 coming from Sprint. Sprint is pretty good
around this area though weak in Brighton. Can I get some feedback on
Cingulars coverage in the area? Thanks.

Just to clarify a few things, what do you mean by "a Siemens SL56 coming
from Sprint."? I was under the impression that Siemens only produced
GSM handsets, and I know that Sprint only uses CDMA.

I think I'm missing something here.

    You're right, it's strictly a GSM phone. I wasn't clear. I have Sprint
now and want to buy an SL56. In order to do that, I'd have to switch to
Cingular, a company that I've heard terrible thigs about their customer
service and mixed messages about their coverage in this area...just
    looking for some opinions.
    TIA

As far as I know, we have good GSM coverage in the
    Boston/Cambridge/Brighton area.

If you visit a Cingular dealer with the specific locations you are
concerned about, you can check the actual-coverage map, to make sure
that your home/office/whatever is not shadowed by a large steel
building, too close to a competing radio source, or otherwise blocked
    from good coverage.

I feel our customer service is decent, and (as a sales rep and provider
of said service) I am quite biased on the matter.

If you don't know of a convenient Cingular dealer near you, I can
recommend the company store at Cleveland Circle. My own stores are west
of you, along Route 9 in Northborough and Framingham. You are more than
    welcome to stop by.

Thanks for the response. I've seen the coverage maps and they're
supposed to be pretty solid. However, I'm looking for more of a
real-world user experience. Someone that lives in the area that can
    give me "hands-on" knowledge.
    Anyone?

    Re: Cingular GSM in Boston/Cambridge/Brighton

My experience isn't great so far. I've GSM with Cingular for myself
and 2 business partners and we get a lot of rapid busy signals,
network is not available, etc. Calling phone to phone - within the
gsm network - seems OK; people calling from TDMA or landlines have
    trouble getting through.

I've started complaining to Cingular without much success so far.
    Your experiences may be different.

Around Kendall Sq in Cambridge is a Cingular dead spot. TDMA roams
onto AT&T and GSM roams onto either AT&T or TMobile.
