6340i glitches?

I have two issues with the phone and I'd like to learn more about them
before going to a Cingular store.

1. My Nokia 6340i has turned itself off for no apparent reason several
times now. I always keep the keypad locked, so it's not due to
inadvertent key pressing, and the battery wasn't depleted either.

2. Twice this week the person I called could not hear me. I could hear
them fine. Even after hanging up and calling a few more times. Only
after turning the phone off, and back on did the problem go away.

Has anyone had these problems, and do you know what's going on?

Sounds like your phone is acting up. I have had some issues with my clock
not working, and calls being disconnected, but never the sound, and power
problems you have.

I would talk to a Service tech at your local office.

Where are you at. City, State.
And what software verison is your phone. Press *#0000# for software
verison. Up to 8.05 I think.
Software update will stop some problems. Others are that if you are in
a GSM area and while talking move to a TDMA signal the phone WILL drop
the call and I have noticed with Nokia supplied GSM towers that the
phone will reboot. Happens to T62u also.

I've noticed this scenario with my 6340i w/8.05 - the phone isn't
turning itself off, per se, it's just rebooting, presumably to acquire a
better network connection. And it's never done this during a call.

I'm in Dallas. The software version is 8.03.1 10-01-03 RH-13.

I haven't seen the phone reboot, just shut down. I didn't experience
dropped calls, just that the person on the other end couldn't hear me at
all until I rebooted the phone on two occasions last week. I was
stationary both times.

I have a 6340i from Washington, DC. I have had the phone reboot itself many
times. I have version 8.04.1.

More recently (yesterday) I had problems while driving from Greensboro, NC
to Hilton Head (I-85, I-77, I-26, I-95). Throughout the trip the
reliability of staying connected to the Cingular network got progressively
worse. It started with the phone about every 15-20 minutes dropping the
signal for about 10-20 seconds during which time you couldn't place a call.
The signal would rapidly drop from full strength (7 bars) to nothing. Then
about 15-20 seconds later a full signal would pop up again. By the time I
reached Hilton Head it was doing this every 2-3 minutes. Occasionally
during these "black outs" it would show Cingular Extend for just a second
before it got Cingular again. I am on the National GAIT plan.

Inside the Westin I am on SunCom TDMA. It is much more solid, but I have
noticed occasionally that the signal is dropping the same way, but it comes
back much faster (2-3 seconds).

Any ideas? Is this the phone or the network? I have never noticed this in
Washington on TDMA or the new GSM. Also didn't have this occur on SunCom or
T-Mobile in Virginia.

I haven't had my 6340i do that--also at 8.03.1. Besides software there
were some reports of a loose battery causing shutdowns--there may be
some variations in batteries and case. Maybe clean the contacts and
bend out the little spring that keeps it tight to the contacts? Maybe
stick some padding between it and the lid?

Hi All,

I have the Nokia 6340i as well and have had it reboot in the middle of
a phone call. It happened today, in fact. The connection closed and I
looked at the phone to see that the screen was totally blank. After a
few seconds it came back and I was able to reconnect. It has happened
several times. The phone has turned off in the past as well while in
my pocket. This second problem seems to have gone away.

How do you update the software (firmware) of the phone?

When I checked before--months ago--nobody in DFW could do it--had to
return it to Nokia. I just called two Service Level 3 repair centers
and both could now do it but couldn't tell me to what version. Omnicom
said they could do it while I waited so guess I'll run by there when I
get a chance....

I found the problem to be the little connectors inside the battery
compartment. Just stretched 'em out a little bit & it stopped
shutting off!
