FREE INTERNET FROM CINGULAR :) HOW COOL IS THAT?

So here folks - let's say you have a cellphone from Cingular GSM and calls
from your home are local calls to you cellphone number. Wanna get FREE
UNLIMITED DIAL UP INTERNET?
There you go:
1. Turn on call forwarding from you cellphone to this number +14152441012
2. Create Dial Up Connection on your PC which will call your cellphone
number and use login: [email protected] and password CINGULAR1
3. Connect using this connection and enjoy free and unlimited dial up from
Cingular.

P.S. It's better to call when u have your off-peak time on your cellphone
and don't forget to disable call forwarding on your cellphone after you got
connected - coz there is still some ppl who will call you and might hear
modem sounds instead

Does that mean with call forwarding, that you can forward to a long
distance (domestic) number with no further charges? Normal airtime
allows for free domestic long distance.

Cingular has the new Unlimited Call Forwarding plan for $2.99. Check
out the details. Most importantly, the forwarded calls don't go against
your minutes.

So it's not really "free" internet; it's $2.99/month internet, as long
as you meet the requirements to get the Unlimited Call Forwarding.

Nope...as far as the local telco is concerned, your cellphone is no
longer in the loop. The free LD from your cellphone is transported
within Cingular's control. I tried it two years ago by having a
friend call forward his Cingular phone to an LD number and on the
next month's bill for my local number, I saw the charges.

But things might have changed since then. Try it out and let us know.

No, it's local only. There are restrictions--on the plan you have, on
the phone you have, and you have to have their special cradle to put it
in.

It's designed to let you give your cell phone number out to people, then
when you're at home or your office, you just plug your phone into the
cradle and hit the button--and anyone who calls you will get forwarded
to your land line.

No more need to give your land line number out. How *convenient*.

Yeah, I saw that unit last month and only fits, what, two phones? It
uses unlimited free call forwarding, but its only when your phone
is in that docking station and you can't use your phone to call out.

Are you talking about that special call forwarding cradle that allows
unlimited cal forwarding? That's a whole 'nuther animal.

The only way I've found that you can get free unlimited calls works
only with a family calling plan or if you have free service-to-service
calling, i.e. Sprint's PCS-to-PCS or anyone that offers free calls to
anyone else using the same carrier you are using.

Four years ago, I tried this out. It worked, but not worth the hassles.
I had two Cingular phones. I severely modified one - I replaced the
keypad and display with a microcontroler interface. I could use my
normal cellphone to call the modified cellphone that would 3-way into
a regular land line. It didn't work too well as there was almost a
second delay after I spoke and the other phone received it. Probably
had something to do with the echo cancellation arraingments.

No big deal at all. Why would I care about using my phone--more
importantly, my minutes--to call out if I'm sitting at my desk or my
house?

I think it fits 3 phones so far, but the plan is to do this with the
bulk of their phones.

It makes perfect sense: it actually gives a good, solid, tangible
benefit to the end user and it makes Cingular all warm and fuzzy that
they're changing the world into using solely their cell phone numbers as
contact points.

No doubt. I think its a great idea on two counts.

You can give out one number, your cellphone, and take calls at home.

You can use any phone in your house, even your cordless if it sounds
better then your cellphone.

No idea why that docking cradle that was on the market two years ago
never took off - perhaps it was because it would onlt fit two or three
phones.

But that docking cradle simply used your wired phones to ultimately go
out via your cellphone--so if your cellphone service sucked, it wasn't
any good.

This new idea takes the cell service out of the loop, and simply gives
you a quick re-route of the cell phone number to whatever phone you've
programmed. It's all a one-button push, and there are no extra airtime
charges. Revolutionary.

We'll see if the public bites.

Frankly, I'd rather see the regular credit customers get the same
7pm-7am off peak time that prepaid customers are getting....

I don't have a landline phone, so I can't try it out. I only have
mobile phones, and I'm having enough trouble with the roaming network
where I am, I don't want to try to mess with call forwarding and further
the trouble along.

You went about this the hard way. Why not just get a CellSocket?
With your computer, a voice modem, and a couple lines of programming,
you probably could've accomplished what you wanted. If you only
called certain numbers, you could put the whole dial string in speed
dial. Obvisously, your call connect time would be a bit longer than
usual, but you could stay connected as long as you wanted at no
additional charge.
