Once again I plead for help. I have a 6340i and I am trying to use it to
access the internet with my laptop through my Earthlink ISP.
I have Wireless internet and WAP works fine.
Either the modem is not working properly, or Cingular is not recognizing my
modem.
Nokia says it could be that I am on a GSM system and their drivers won't
work with GSM. Cingular says "Huh?"
Has anyone had experience using the 6340i as a modem to contact their ISP?
Please contact.

I had problems with the Nokia drivers so I removed them. My Thinkpad
running XP Pro connects fine to the 6340i (on GSM) using the "Standard
modem over IR Link" on COM5. In the case of IR the Thinkpad has to be
"seeing" the IR device before you can configure the modem connection.
My PDA also connects fine using generic drivers so it's not that GSM
can't do non-wap data over Wireless Internet. If you're getting to the
phone you should see it "Calling" and then a '"D" Call 1' when it
connects. I normally connect to my ISP but I tested the WAP one and it
also works.

Jud:
I am using a serial cable, not IR, but I followed your suggestion, removing
the Nokia drivers and using "Standard Modem." Success.
You are smarter than the Nokia Techs and all of the Cingular Techs in India
or where ever it is that you call when you get them.
Thanks.

In my list of modems I do not have "Standard modem over IR link".
My computer recognizes the 6340i and installs it on Com 4 but when I try to
dial - I get an error msg. This might sound real stupid but - to dial I am
using a standard dial up window, dialing my local isp #, configured for the
nokia and in properties for the port it shows "virtual infrared com port".
any suggestions appreciated.

See if you can install "standard modem" and pick IR as the port--while
the 6340i is "seen" by the pc.

What did it install it AS? Modem?

"Virtual"? - that doesn't sound good. See if you can install the
standard modem manually as above.
