I'm a week into my first month service with Cingular. I just left an AT&T
TDMA plan to go to Cingular's GSM Nation plan for $40 a month for 500
minutes with rollover. I got the Motorola T720 phone and it has a few more
features than the Motorola V60i I had with AT&T. The one thing I wish the
T720 had in common with the V60i was adequately loud audio from the
earpiece. With the volume all the way up on this new T720 I am lucky if I
can hear who I am talking to if the room I'm in isn't completely quiet and I
have good hearing. That to me seems pretty bad to me considering that GSM
is supposed to be the new standard that every carrier will eventually go to.
I have been a fan of Motorola since my first Motorola a 7897 flip phone and
it and the V60i both had louder earpiece volume than most phones that AT&T
sold for use with their TDMA service. Anyway, other than the earpiece
volume the T720 is a pretty spiffy phone with many features. Now onto the
problem with service in my area which is 50 miles south of Nashville. About
a quarter of the calls I try to make I get fast busy signal and a network
busy message on my phone in the middle of my town which is Columbia, TN. I
have a friend who I work with that signed up with the same plan as me about
a week before I did and he's having the same network busy problems. Another
problem is that sometimes people call me and go directly into my voice mail
and my phone was on and it never rang and I have good signal anywhere around
my town. I guess that could be due to the network being busy but, I use my
phone for work and need to have a reliable cell phone. I have called
Cingular about this on 2 or 3 occassions already and they don't seem overly
concerned or informed of this problem in my area even though I know that 2
of my friends have also called to tell them about the same problems like
I've been experiencing and they are on the same GSM plans as me. Also the
received and transmitted audio quality from my V60i TDMA phone was much
better than this new GSM T720. The only thing making me want to stay with
Cingular at this point is the rollover minutes but, if things don't get
better very soon then I'm leaving before the 15 days.

PS. I would have liked to of left a written note on the Cingular website
about these problems I've been experiencing but, if you don't have an
account number then you can't and since I haven't received my first bill I
don't have the account number.

You'd have gotten quite a bit more attention to your post if you'd have
broken it up into paragraphs, instead of one long rambling run-on thing
that was incredibly difficult to read...

Re: Problems with GSM Nation plan in TN
Why are you staying with Cingular? It sounds like you have a really lousy
coverage there and even poorer customer service- get rid of it now during
the trial period. Go to www.roamer.org and find out who is good in
Tennessee. Stanley Cline apparently lives in or near Chattanooga and has a
website that details who is good and bad in your area.

Sorry, gave you the wrong link for Cline's site. The correct one is below:

Re: Problems with GSM Nation plan in TN
Thanks, I'll check it out. I just wish Cingular had their GSM straightened
out in my area. I love the idea of rollover minutes.

Re: Problems with GSM Nation plan in TN
I looked at his maps and its looks like Verizon covers your area with CDMA.

Re: Problems with GSM Nation plan in TN
You could always get GSM from AWE and roam on Cingular's GSM(if needed) for
free with a local plan.
Also, the Moto T720 is known for bad earpiece volume, even the CDMA version
had low earpiece volume.

Ok, well here's a question for those who have a flip phone they use with
Cingular. Which GSM flip phone that Cingular offers is the best one to use
with their GSM service? The choices are the LG G4010, Samsung X427, and
Samsung S307. These are the phones that Cingular has on their website and I
don't know if they offer any different flip phones at their stores. I wish
there was a website that reviewed phones. Since I don't know of any I am
open to any suggestions on which models work well with GSM. Thanks
