Just found out what bluejacking is.
Maybe I'm just a bit slow and this has come up already (for which I do
apologise), but for those who haven't heard of this yet check out
    www.bluejackq.com
I'm currently using a 7210 (which I'm sooooooooo bored of already). Anyway,
charged up my previous phone (T68i, which I miss sooooo much) and bluejacked
some people in a shopping mall here in South Africa. Just love the
expression on their faces :-) Quite amazed at how many people have bluetooth
turned on - especially Nokias! Does anyone know if Nokia has bluetooth
turned on by default or have these people just turned it on accidentally?
    TIA.

I believe Nokia has BT on by default.

Couldn't it be becaule they actually are using the BT feature, and not just
playing with it, for a hands free for example?

Thanx Marka2K. Thought Nokias might have it on by default. Just making sure.

Don't think it's due to people using bluetooth devices here in South Africa.
Not many people here know what it is.

No, if that was the case they would have it ON but not visible ie only
devices you have paired your phone with in the past are visible and
useable. This is how I run my Z600 (I use BT for handsfree and syncing
    with my PC)

These people fall squarley into the NFI what the hell BT is camp

    Re: Bluejacking

I don't think that Nokias or any brand has bluetooth on by default. One
major reason for that is the increased current consumption i.e. battery goes
dead faster, so it has to be user's choice to do that.

One way to try to solve whether somebody has default BT settings or not, is
to look at the bluetooth name of the devices you find when doing device
discovery. If there is something like Nokia7650 it's possible that user has
default settings, but if the bluetooth name is something like joes-c-phone,
you might think that at least somebody at some point has touched phone's BT
    settings.

And if you are asking something related to Nokia phones, maybe you could ask
from alt.cellular.nokia also? I would guess that the probability of getting
more reliable Nokia related info would be higher...

    Cheers

Maybe in South Africa, but not in the US. I've never found another
bluetooth device scanning in restaurants or other crowded places.
The only other bluetooth devices I've found belonged to a cow-orker
of mine who set them to discoverable so I could test bluetooth.

All (except one) of the phones I found showed the phones name so more than
likely they haven't played with their bluetooth setting.
