can someone explain what a sim card is and does? i recently bought my
first sim card phone; a t610 with t-mobile service. the k700i has
been released. i'd like to get it and give the t610 to my wife. i
have a *fantasy* that all i'd need to do is move the sim card from the
t610 to the k700 and poof, the k700 works, i maintain my current phone
number, service level, etc. (i don't care about preserving the
phonebook. i only have a handful of entries in the t610 right now
anyway.) tia.

That's the theory, provided both phones work with the same provider,
i.e. none of them is subsidy-locked to another one and they both work on
the same frequency (US standard would be GSM1900).

Sorry, the phonebook will be "preserved", too. If you have stored it on
the SIM card that is.
