Hello.
I'm a newbie to this newsgroup. I just got a SE T610 from T-Mobile USA a few
days ago. I've been reading various website talking about firmware upgrades.
I'm just curious has anyone tried to go to a SE service center to upgrade
thier firmware and had success doing so? Some people have said that SE
customer service in the US don't even know what firmware is! I guess it's
more common in other countries (Europe, Asia) for customer service to
upgrade firmware for customers more frequently? I have R1S001 whereas
website have been claiming R6C005 as the latest. I'm afraid to flash it
myself b/c I dont' want to lose warranty. Any stories, suggestions would be
appriciated, Thanks!

Hi,
US SonyEricsson Service Center upgraded firmware of my T610 to the latest. I
had R1S001 and it upgraded it to R6.
To tell you the truth I don't see any difference, except for that I paid
them almost $40.00 though the phone is new and under warranty. So if you
have spare $40 go for it, they'll do it for you.

Not with the new RSA protected firmware you can't, however you can get
deprotected (sp?) flashes. Terminator is a good solution for older SE
handsets, but it will be useless very soon for newer phones.

You have solution for new SE phones with terminator dongle. But, there are
rumors that You could change software via Internet by yourself for all new
SE phones.

No, you don't. Terminator cannot (and the likelihood is that it never will)
flash the new SE handsets (K700, S700, Z1010 etc.). It's also useless with
the RSA protected firmware (but I believe it can be bodged by dismantling
the phone and using a test point - not a particularly bright idea on a brand
new phone)..

You should be able to upgrade them in the same way you can with the P900,
but you won't be able to remove customisation, change the language packs, or
reset the eeprom.

Re: firmware upgrade T610 in USA
Thanks for the advice but why do they charge $40 to have that done? Do other
countries pay for firmware upgrades? If you didn't notice any improvments,
I probably won't get it done esp. for $40!
