Problem re-connecting P910 to PC

Hi,

Anyone help me here, please?

My basic problem is that I can connect and synchronise my P910i and PC
only once without having to reboot the PC.

After booting the PC, I can connect my P910i first time, everytime,
i.e the Phone Connection Link icon shows connected and the Phone
Monitor icon appears in the tray and the P910i can be synchronised
fine.

If I then disconnect the P910i from the PC and later return it to the
sync station, the Phone Connection Link icon shows connected but no
Phone monitor icon appears, therefore I can't sync.

Running the 'Synchronise' program manually from the Sony Ericsson
group in the Start.. Programs menu fails with a message asking me to
connect a phone (even though it shows as being connected by the Phone
Connection Link).

This happens with both a cable and a bluetooth connection.

I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2 with the latest PC Suite for P910
(release 3) downloaded from the SE website.

I've even reformatted and reinstalled the OS (drastic, I know, but it
had got to that point!) but still the problem occurs.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cured it myself. I had ZoneAlarm Security Suite running and had
opened it up to all the parts that the PC Suite readme tells you to. I
already tried disabling it to see if that made any difference, but it
didn't.

However, completely uninstalling it has cured the problem. Why it
should have let the phone connect once and then refuse to recognise
when it reconnects is beyond me.

Still it works now. Just have to get soemething to replace ZoneAlarm.

Interesting. I run P910i, XP Pro SP1 and Zone Alarm, and I never had a problem. Yes, Zone
alarm asks for permission for some programs when I do a backup, I say yes, and then it works.

My only suspicion (before you hack around with ZoneAlarm): I run SP1 you seem to have
upgraded to SP2. There are some very disagreeable problems with SP2 related to its way to
handle security; that might be the problem!
