I almost feel silly about worrying about this - after all its only a cell
phone. But has anyone noticed that this or other SE cell phones scratch
easily? I've had my T637 for 3 weeks and already I've got some pretty
serious scratches on the screen. It there anyway to replace this? I think
the different faceplates you buy do not replace the screen. My Nokia phone
that I had for a year and a half isn't even as scratched as my SE T637 is
within a few weeks.
Thanks!

Re: Sony Ericsson T637 scratching easily?
I have noticed the exact same thing with my T616. I put a PDA sheet over it
for a while but then took it off. It managed to get scratched anyway.
A little frustrating when you like to keep your stuff nice.

Re: Sony Ericsson T637 scratching easily?
I have the same problem with my t637, but mine had a big scratch the second
day I got it. I was pissed. So yes they do seem to get scratched easily.
I've seen OEM faceplates on ebay for around 10.00 US.
Another option is a product called Displex that I found web searching ideas
to fix the scratch. This stuff works great and it also took the nicks out
of my wrist watch. Just don't rub this stuff too hard. try a couple of
light applications and you'll be fine.
here's the link: http://www.displex.de/
Good luck

Re: Sony Ericsson T637 scratching easily?
Well, good to know I wasn't the only one. I know in 6 months I won't even
care, but damn, such big scratches so soon.
Thanks for the link to displex. I'll definitely check it out.
Do the OEM faceplates replace the screen, too? Or just the black plastic
casing?

Re: Sony Ericsson T637 scratching easily?
Watch out, they charge you a fortune for a tiny portion of this stuff. A
real rip off! You'll be as fine with visor polish from any motorcycle
shop for a fraction of the price. If you don't mind the smelling you can
even polish the disply with tooth paste....:-)
Cheers,
Horst

Those inexpensive scratched-CD repair kits, are very good on mobile phone
screens as well.

I don't really know. If I do end up buying a new faceplate on ebay.....I
will ask the seller before I buy.

Maybe for light scratches, but the CD stuff didn't work for me.

Re: Sony Ericsson T637 scratching easily?
I have bought several OEM faceplates on ebay. They all come with a back
plate, a part to cover the area around the camera, keypad, and a faceplate.
The faceplate has a new clear window to cover the LCD sceen on your phone. I
have a T616 and have got a couple different covers. Once one gets real
scratched up, I buy a new one, usually a new color to try it out. It usually
ends up being like $5-10 for the faceplates. Make sure you get a Torx
screwdriver for it too, usually the ebay seller will offer one to add or try
a hardware store. Some stores like Radiosuck and Lowe's and Home Depot will
not carry the right size (T6) screwdriver for it. I got mine in a 6 pack at
Harbor Freight for like $5. Changing the face plate isnt difficutl either.
Dont lose any screws, try not to touch the screen surface w/ the faceplate
off, and use a can of Dust Off or compressed air to clean out the phone as
well.

That's awesome info. Thanks much. I checked out Ebay and they have some
cool faceplates. The shiny silver one looks neat, but I bet it fingerprints
up like a bi*ch.

Re: Sony Ericsson T637 scratching easily?
Be warned that the fit and finish of cheap aftermarket faceplates can be poor.

Re: Sony Ericsson T637 scratching easily?
The fact is that the T637 was not designed to accommodate user-swappable
covers so you may void your warranty by taking your phone apart. Removing
the antenna cover portion of the housing can be a tricky and delicate job.
Only undertake this task if you are confident in your ability to tinker with
small electronics. You might want to consider wearing a grounding strap on
your wrist. And working with at least one foot in a bucket of water will
render you doubly static resistant. Good luck.

Re: Sony Ericsson T637 scratching easily?
Speaking of such things. what exactly will void the warranty? I just sent my
phone in because the joystick and powerbuttons stopped functioning good.
they ask the obvious questions of was the phone dropped or get wet and that
was a NO. so just by taking the phone apart and persay temporarily changing
the faceplate void warranty?

Yes, there is. The bezel covering the screen on the T637 is held in place
by a sticky strips that do not harden. One strip is located along the top of
the phone and the other is just under the joystick surround. The bezel
covers the screen and extends from covering the joystick to just above the
earspeaker horizontal slit. You can run your thumbnail around this bezel as
their is a groove around its perimeter.
By digging your thumbnail under the bottom of the bezel that surrounds the
joystick and prying u,p you can remove the bezel which includes the outer
plastic screen covering. The screen underneath can be cleaned as well as
the underside of the protector panel. The bezel can then be placed back on
the phone (as the sticky strips will remain sticky) or you can replace the
bezel with a new one extracted from another front cover. The bezel is not
offered separately, AFAIK, but is considered part of the front housing even
though the screen bezel is merely stuck on to the front housing with the
sticky strips. In effect, they work like velcro.
