Is there something different about the K700i? I bought a budget
headset (Safecom SBTHS-3500 from Ebuyer) and cannot get sound through
the headset even though pairing appears to have worked.

The headset manual says it is compatible with:

    <quote>
    Sony Ericsson: T39,T68,T68i,T610,T616,T630,Z200,Z600,R520M,T28 BT
    Dongle,P800,P900,K700C

    * Can be compatible with most of the major cell phones with CSR
    Bluetooth Chip V1.1
    </endquote>

I took the absence of the K700i being the fact that the manual was not
up to date (is there a K700C model??).

A further question - do I need to manually select the correct profile
or should the phone automatically detect the headset is on and
    therefore select the handsfree profile?

    Many thanks

The K700i is not perfect, do upgrade from R1A software if that is what
you have. However, it should just work, and does with most other
headsets. I am afraid you get what you pay for.

Thanks for replying. I did manage to get the headset to work
spasmodically but the sound is very thin - presumably would be much
better if I bought a better headset? Any recommendations and is it
true that I can't play MP3 through the headset with the K700i?

Also the connection to the headset seems to drop, presumably that is
    the K700i problem. I don't have a cradle so don't think I can upgrade
    the software.

The K700i does communicate fairly well with the "mobile phone tools"
    usb bluetooth dongle.

How can I find out what firmware I have and how do I go about upgrading
it? I bought my phone unlocked over the internet, and it's not officially
    supported by my carrier.

OK Cool. It says R2AY004. Is that fairly up to date?

It can be done from the SE website if it is an unbranded phone!

Indeed. Which reminds me, I'll have to stick mine on ebay now that SE
have changed the connector for the k750. It's no use to me anymore.

I did see one on ebay but it is pointless. It required a charger and usb
cable in addition. The supplied DCU-60 cable does all that the desktop
stand used to and charges the phone up. There's not really a market for
    it IMHO.

I'm not following what happens here.
Does it mean stick right, *, stick left twice, * , left, *

As soon as I do stick right I get a menu option.

Ignore it and carry on with the sequence. The "secret" menu will then
    pop up.

It does for the k700. The SonyEricsson Update service (SEUS) insists on
it or the DSS 20 for the firmware upgrade. It is also a handy bit of kit
for synchs etc but not really necessary.

They're only a few quid on ebay now.

It does and SEUS is happy with it. For debranding and unlocking with
third party companies a cruiser cable is required. As for not owning one
-shame on you! The k750 is the mutts nutz especially if you get yours
"free" like what I did! 'Er indoors has got one too but likes some
aspects of her old v600 better, particularly the calendar.

MyPhoneExplorer and Mobiledit. The latter is particularly good for
transferring between different phone types. The former has caused me to
delete FMA off my computer for the time being as its k750 support is
suspect at the mo. FMA has got some way to go to equal MyPhoneExplorer
which is simple, intuitive and works like a dream. Hell it even looks
    nicer! :O)
